Can we include a barcode font in the list of fonts for auto responder emails?

Asked by peterstead on October 30, 2014 at 10:14 PM
Also I have a request: Can we include a barcode font in the list of fonts for auto responder emails? I am trying to build a check-in ticket for an event where upon registering via the form it automatically emails a ticket to the registerer with a barcode for scanning. Make sense? What would you suggest?
    Kind regards,

    Hi Peter,

Then the barcode will contain the information that was submitted to the form or is it a predefined data to the barcode? I'm afraid that a barcode that gets the data based on the submission is NOT possible. With a predefined data, you can just put it in the autoresponder email.

    Thank you!

I was hoping to use the auto generated next number widget and simply display that as a barcode. Ie the user won't necessarily define it. Does that change anything? What would be involved in developing this functionality? It would be very useful for event management.

    Hi Peter,

Can you share also to us how you intend to implement it if the Barcode is display already in the Email?

Is there a proprietary or custom application you will use to read the barcode text in the Email?

I am not that knowledgeable on the barcode application, but on my search I get to know some convention like EAN/UPC.. this website even offer free barcode generator.

From what I understand the most, barcode data are also just text data that uses specialize font. So it means the bars being were actually text using barcode font.

Maybe we can help you with more better suggestion if we can understand what will be the process after the data is already in the email message/text.

I am thinking that why not just print the email text and use the barcode font during printing... but maybe it is not just as simple as that.

We will wait for your updated response.

    Thanks.

    Jonathan,
You are correct that barcodes typically is just a font type of text data. You could also look at using a QR code as our Barcode readers can handle both. The type we use are: http://www.datalogic.com/eng/products/automatic-data-capture/on-counter-readers/magellan-800i-pd-156.html
Quite simply the process would work like this:
    1. Client registers for the event by the jot form: http://form.jotformpro.com/form/43052268742959
    2. Client receives an email with unique registration number as a QR code and instructions to print it out and bring with them to the actual event
    3. Data list is exported from Jotform and imported into our check-in access program
    4. On the day of the event the attendee brings the printed “ticket” email with the code showing
    5. Check-in person scans the code on the ticket and the access program looks up the attendee list and sets that unique code to “attended”
A QR code may be easier? See:
    http://www.qrstuff.com/
    https://www.the-qrcode-generator.com/
Our event is on the 16th Dec and we need to send out invites in a week or so. What do you think are the likely chances of developing the font into emails by then?

    Hi Peter,

Thank you for providing us with so much helpful details.

I am not sure if you are aware already, but there is an existing QR Code Widget in JotForm.

You can check it here http://widgets.jotform.com/widget/qr_code

You can actually add your own QR barcodes into the form itself that can be read by a scanning device.

BUT what I did noticed is that the QR code is not visible in the email message.

Here is a test jotform http://www.jotform.me/form/43052950763455 you can submit.

In the email message, even thought the QR code field was included in the message, the result was empty.

Do you think the QR code widget can work already to what you need?

The missing component is that it should exist in the email or the submission data should include the data of QR code.

We can submit a request to our developer to have the feature to include the barcode data in the email.

We will wait for your update.

    Thanks.

You can use barcodesinc.com's bar code generator and use the ID on your form for creating bar codes on your email alerts.

You can try combining your form's field with the kind of ID that will be used for creating bar codes with barcodesinc.com's script available online.  This will display the barcode image with the given number.

To make this work, you can simply go to your email alert wizard and modify the HTML contents. In the area where you wish to show the bar code, simply edit the HTML source of the email alert:

Insert this HTML tag where you wish your bar code to appear in your email alert:

    <img src="//www.barcodesinc.com/generator/image.php?style=197&type=C128B&width=330&height=80&xres=2&font=4&code={uniqueID}" />

Note: replace {uniqueID} with the template variable of your field that you wish to use

Example editing the HTML source of the email alert body:

Click the update button once done editing.  This is how it should look like:

    Finish and save your form.

Here's a sample screenshot when using the Unique ID field with the said barcode script when sent to my inbox:

Thanks this looks like it could work however how do I get the code to save properly? I can get it to function with the test email but not when I submit via form in the normal way? See attached.
I clicked “finish” on the email and then the save button on the form. You say below click Finish and Save.. am I saving it incorrectly?
