Feature Request: Two Selects Related Function

Asked by markashton on September 22, 2011 at 07:48 AM

    Hi,

I have increasing need for a "two selects related" function.

Meaning? Two drop down menus where the second drop down is populated based on the selection in the first menu.

    Example:

First Drop Down > Country > England, Scotland, Wales

Second Drop Down > County .... this would be a list of counties and they would be marked to appear on selection...

I don't want to do a hide/show with three different dropdown fields - this is inefficient and also doesn't port to the need where a field in thye second dropdown occurs in more than one of the first drop down selctions

    Thanks Mark

    Hello Mark,

I will submit a ticket to our development team and let them take a look and consider this request.

May we also ask how many options (hidden fields) are we talking about which opted you to make a request instead of creating a customized form with those conditions?

    Thanks,

    liyam

    Hi,

I'm not totally sure on this. Obviously, you would want to add them as a comma seperated list in compiling them. The function does have its uses and isn't as messy in the background as multiple conditions and multiple fields that are essentially the same thing.

My intention is to use on a mobile with town and sub-areas

     Thanks

     Regards, Mark

Hi, left this exactly 50 days ... i.e. 1200 hours.

And this is in a high priority pipeline?

    Respectfully, there's a disconnect ;(

Massive need for this ...... example ....

Type of machine .... autoclave, ultrasonic bath, washer disinfector

Type of test ... options to show

    Autoclave = Foil, Soil, Standard

    Ultrasonic Bath = Foil, Wand

    Washer Disinfector = Soil

But I can't use this technique as you haven't implemented it ... you state high priority ... however I note loads of integrations .... mmm?

So, my options are to use three different forms or some ludicrous hide/show field thing with extra fields.

Can you advise me on this please ... then I'll let you know one of the 30 feature Requests I have down but am not going to post until I see some movement on the other 15 or so I've posted with you ;)

PS you have a killer bug in Chrome

Hello, Mark, there is not really much we can add, but to say that issue is with a developer and has been marked as important.

The developer tasked with this will see your comment, I would ask you be as patient as possible, there are currently working an couple of exciting new JotForm features which will be unveiled soon.

You know what ... I'm sitiing here trying to work out how to do this as a workaround.

Shame not implemented ... its a good feature that adds much value.

If you haven't the slightest idea what I'm on about let me know ....

    Consider ...

I have 10 groups of people
Each group has 6 individuals in it

I want to choose the person in one dropdown and the dropdown below it automatically changes to the correct group ....

Alas ... I'm going to have to do all the submissions by hand and change the group field manually as we don't have a two-selects related function ....

Original request posted around the time Enron went bust wasn't it?

    @markashton

Just like you, I also wish we had all the time in the world to implement every feature request deemed as useful by JotForm users. Sadly though, that is not the case.

That is the exact reason why we have decided to release JotForm API and JotForm Widgets API -- to allow people who want to do more be able to do more.

Your desired effect can be achieved using Custom Widgets API, but it comes at a cost (programming skills).

    Good luck!

    Respectfully Neil ....

    I don't have any programming skills ...

Should one take this statement from the founder with a pinch of salt then posted Sept 2011 .... over 2 years ago ?

We have assigned a feature request ticket for this. We will update this thread when this feature is implemented.

    Your statement ...

I also wish we had all the time in the world to implement every feature request deemed as useful by JotForm users. Sadly though, that is not the case.

Mmmm... I look at all the widgets Jotform has created that have no functionality whatsoever ... and no use I can put any of them to apart from some daft eye-candy thing and wonder which jotform users requested them ??

They were done on the whim of what Jotform developers wanted to do ... not what would be really useful to full-time jotform users like me ...

The two-selects related is a good robust form feature ... it should have been implemented.

    Regards Mark

We all have opinions, and I respect yours Mark.

I disagree with your opinion about our current roster of widgets being of no use. These widgets are used by a lot of full-time and long-time JotForm users like you, and that's an irrefutable fact.

With that said, we will let you know if and when any of our developers run into idle time and decide to implement your much-requested feature.

    Best regards

    Fair enough Neil ...

The ones that were part of the existing functionality ... were good ... filepicker, autocomplete, etc

But many of the new ones just don't work. I've tried them!

I could pull out 10 widgets that just don't work at all ... and 20 that have bugs or are not market ready because of issues.

Take for example Filepicker widget ... worked beautifully as a core function ... not working properly now it has been moved from core function to widget

Take Transloadit widget ... doesn't work ... simply abandoned before finished.

Shall i put together a "Simply abandoned before finished" list ;-)

Anyway ... please consider this form function I have suggested. Thanks
