    Error message: This transaction cannot be processed due to an invalid merchant configuration.

    I did what was suggested above but still get the error message " Invalid Configuration.   This transaction cannot be processed due to an invalid merchant configuration."

    Hi,

    The problem could be related to your PayPal Pro merchant account configuration.

    You can check the error code information on this page:

    10500  - error code
    Invalid Configuration 
    This transaction cannot be processed due to an invalid merchant configuration. 
    Occurs when you have not agreed to the billing agreement.

    10501  - error code
    Invalid Configuration 
    This transaction cannot be processed due to an invalid merchant configuration. 
    Occurs when the billing agreement is disabled or inactive.

    Please make sure that your PayPal account is ready to accept payments. You can also contact PayPal Support to get assistance.

    If I click on the PayPal link, the transaction can be processed.  The problem only occurs when I click on the credit card link.

    This is because you need to accept the billing agreement in your PayPal account as mentioned by @jonathan on his response.
