Submissions Not Showing and Different Value on Input Field.

Asked by guineapigme on December 31, 2014 at 03:11 AM

Having a lot of difficulty with data persistence or something between editor, forms, and submissions.

    1. Firstly, no longer see ANY new submissions in my submissions library for my form.  The submit button is appearing to do the submit function in that I see notifier mail sent and the thank you screen, but I do not see a new submission appear in my main menu of submissions!

    2. Additionally, the notifier mail that is generated with the {variables} and the pdf link generated within that mail seems to be populated with some new and some old data.

There is an old value in the  Editor email 2: has the address of one of the support people who helped me this afternoon, even though I have prepopulated this (hidden) email variable with something else in my original form.

    3. NOTE: I seem to continually lose the submission preferences I set in terms of headings and empty fields.  They just go away as if I never set them.  Perhaps this has to do with lost submission forms?

    4. And finally, I would like to retain the formatting (including white space) in the text box areas that I have created so that when they turn into a pdf, they are retained.   My user is trying to arrange people in formations via names and to have the white space go away in the form is not what I need.

Please advise.   If I could live chat with someone it would really help.

    Thanks,

    Deborah

Here is the live form showing the formatted data in the Dance Configurations (please see how it is changed in the submission and then pdf link).  Please see the 3rd page for this.

Here is the supposed pdf link generated from my pressing submit on my form that I have sent through the mail.  First  note the discrepancy of the entries in the emails with respect to the actual form data in my editor (these are hidden fields in the live form)

    Hi,

Upon checking your account and form, I see that the recipient emails you have are not in our bounce list and it seems to have good records in our mail logs.

    1. Firstly, no longer see ANY new submissions in my submissions library for my form.  The submit button is appearing to do the submit function in that I see notifier mail sent and the thank you screen, but I do not see a new submission appear in my main menu of submissions!

I cloned your form and made test submission by filling them out and clicking the submit button. I was able to receive two notifications.

    2. Additionally, the notifier mail that is generated with the {variables} and the pdf link generated within that mail seems to be populated with some new and some old data.

The old or the email address in the hidden field might have been changed because of the autofill plugin that the earlier support is using when testing your form.

I would like to suggest that you try filling out the form you have and make a couple of completed submissions to see the consistency of the data.

I made a test submission on your form, you should be able to see random text with names "Beverly Hills" and the editor email "bhills_8008@veryrealemail.com" (this is because I'm using an auto-fill plugin, so hidden field will also changed even if prepopulated). You can see it on your submissions page now.

For the other concerns that you have, I've created separate threads for them so that we can assist you better on that particular issue. Please refer to the links below:

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more information on this.

    Thank you.

    Hi again,

I see what you've done and your submission and links show up and look as if I would expect.  I just can't get it to work for me in my own case.

When I attempt the same thing through my own link (and see the same expected notifications go out).

    I

    1.  Do NOT see the new submission in the list

    2. DO see the mail with the pdf and edit links

    3. STILL see the autofill in the mail-generated pdf link from the previous support person.

I am submitting from an instance of my form in my website which uses the edit link

    http://submit.jotform.us/form.php?formID=43600351273142&sid=295676165081767239&mode=edit

So my problem seems very contextual and I don't know how to resolve it.  Could there be something else that was done during the support period to disable anything?

How do I get rid of that autofill that is sticking around in my form instance.

    Hi Deborah,

Just to confirm, you have embedded your form to your website using this link: http://submit.jotform.us/form.php?formID=43600351273142&sid=295676165081767239&mode=edit? If yes, it won't generate a new submission but will just update the existing one that it is related to, which is in this case submission ID 295676165081767239, that may explain the inconsistency of a particular submission because you are just changing that one particular submission.

For you and your users to have a new submission, you should be using the standalone link of your Form which is this: http://www.jotform.us/form/43600351273142. Or use the embed form code found in your form builder.

    1. To find your Form URL, you can follow the screenshot below.

    2. To embed the form to a website or use it on a different platform, you can find its code under the "Embed Form" options.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to see the PDF that you have shared here because this link file:///Users/deborahsavage/Downloads/295676165081767239%20(13).pdf, is the link of your file found in your computer, which is in your local storage and not on the Internet. I won't be able to have access on it.

    Kind regards.

Thanks for explaining this.   I do have questions though.   Firstly, I believe I got that link from picking up the edit_link provided in the Notifier/Autoresponder mail through the mail generation function - which was how I understood one gets an edit link in the first place to do follow-on edits.

If I use the standalone link or embed source code, won't I get a (new) blank instance of my form every time?

I am providing an actual link on my website to allow the person to go back and add the form, so in some sense, I have fixing the actual link on my website.

    ======

So, from what I can gather, if I want to look at the updated submission for the form, I need to track the original edit link submission by that ID number??

Is this the best way to track changes to a continually edited form?  Because of the way I expect my form to be used, I want to track multiple changes to a form.

I am trying to understand a preferred way of doing this so that I satisfy the needs of having a specific person make multiple changes to a form over time - and for me to track the data etc ... .

    Thanks,

    Deborah

p.s. I am also trying to eliminate the autofill from yesterday's support test in my own form which still shows in the editor 2 mail field I think.   How can this be disabled so that my own default field comes back  I see it still instantiated through the notifier mail.    "It's the vince" entry.

And is the "submission date" not the current date because this was the first time for this form ID?

I would have assumed the submission date is updated every time the form is saved/submitted. ????

    Hi,

From what I understood, you wanted to track one person's edits or updates made in one submission. Is that right?

If that's the case, the edit_link would not be the one that you're looking for. The edit_link updates one submission, but doesn't keep the old changes made on it.

I do have a workaround for this. We will still use the standalone URL of the form but we will prepopulate it with values from the previous submission that it has. Here's the sample I did.

    1. Get the field names of all the necessary inputs that you would like to fill out by the user. For testing purposes and shorted time, I only added the field "Performance Title" and "Revision Name".

    http://www.jotform.com/form/43643425626961?performanceTitle={performanceTitle}&revisionName={revisionName}

Pink Highlight: Field Names without "{}"

Blue Highlight: Field Names as seen on their properties.

Green Highlight: Standalone Form URL or Direct Link of Form.

    2. Add that update/edit link to your email notifications. Here's mine

    3. I then fill out my form the first time, got two notifications and click the update link on them, I then fill out the Revision Name field and save it. In my Submissions page, you will see that there are two submission. The first one not having a revision name, while the second one having a revision name.

Please do take note that I only pre-populate the fields "Performance Title" and "Revision Name", in your case, you will need to add all the fields in your update link.

To see my form in action, you can clone this form http://www.jotform.com/form/43643425626961 using this guide http://www.jotform.com/help/42-How-to-Clone-an-Existing-Form-from-a-URL.

For the other concern that you have. You will need to edit "Edit or email 2:" field in your submission. You can do this by navigating to Submissions page, choose the submission and click Edit. Take note that you will need to click the submit button there for the changes to save.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more assistance on this.

    Thank you.
