If I understood the trial subscription, I should be able to receive 100 submissions, but I received a message that my space is almost run out with only 8 or so surveys back. Can you explain this to me?

The reminder message you got was due to the SSL secure submissions and not the Regular submission.
The FREE accounts have 10 SSL secure submissions allowed.
You can see your account submissions status in profile status dropdown page
I just checked your account and I can see that you already have 10 SSL submissions.
You accumulate SSL submissions when using secure URL of the form or if the form was embedded on a secure website.

Since this was the first time you encounter the issue, I will reset your current SSL count to zero(0) again. But please take note that we only grant this privilege for new accounts.
If you exceed the allowed limits, you should opt for the higher subscription packages to have more limits. You can check this on the JotForm Pricing page.
