Paypal integration: Error Message When Subscribing

  • Bates Marketing
Asked on March 12, 2023 at 10:17 PM

I am receiving the following error message when trying to setup subscriptions with Paypal, "Things don't appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later."
Are subscriptions still possible with PayPal?

    Hi Bates Marketing,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Yes, you can subscribe to any plan via PayPal. What plan do you want to subscribe to? Is it yearly or monthly?

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to move forward with a solution.

    Hello Bates,

Thanks for getting back to us. Mostly, this issue can be fixed by removing the integration and adding it back. You can check out this guide on How to Integrate PayPal Checkout with Jotform.

You can also try another payment gateway which is the Paypal Standard and it is also a highly recommended payment integration.

Keep us updated and let us know if you need any other help.

We have switched the payment from PayPal to square but are unable to test if subscription works while in test mode. Is there a way to test without entering a credit card?

    Hello Bates Marketing,

Thank you for getting back to us. You may enable the sandbox mode to do a test without getting charged so you can make sure that the payment integration is working properly. After connecting your account to the payment integration, kindly click on the additional payment gateway to see the sandbox mode. If you are having trouble finding it, please let us know the form URL so we can check it directly.

Once we hear back, we will be able to help.

Our form preview is located here https://www.jotform.com/build/230706991593162#preview

I have squares sandbox turned on. When I complete the form preview... there's no submission or anything to test the square subscription.

We mainly want to help align potential subscribers over what to expect. Will they receive an email giving a heads up for the upcoming subscription payment?

Thank you for all the help so far!

    Hello Bates Marketing,

Thanks for getting back to us. I checked your form and I can confirm that you have already configured your Square correctly. However, upon checking it is currently in Live Mode and I understand that you want to test it first. You can change your mode to Test Mode so and you can use the following test card credentials from square using this link.

Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the help! The test worked great. I noticed that information on subscriptions is sparse, can anyone help our team navigate a few more questions

Will a subscriber receive any email notice when their subscription is going to be charged? Is there a way to automate an email so they get a warning that the charge is coming?

On the back end, how would we know if someone cancels their subscription? Do we receive any notice and how would we be aware of a cancellation?

If a subscriber wants to cancel, how do they go about doing so?

Can the subscriptions be a checkbox rather than radio button or can they only choose one?

    Hi Bates Marketing,

Yes, Jotform sends you and your customer an email about the recurring payment. With the recurring payment emails, it will include a cancellation link. Please refer to our guide on How Do I Work with Square Subscription and Cancel it in Jotform.

I have moved your other question to a new thread and will help you with that here.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
