Setting Unique Field: Form is submitting twice

    Hi,

This form seems to be submitting twice almost every time someone fills it out. I did a lot of testing and thought I had it fixed, but it unfortunately looks like it's been filled out twice since my testing and created a duplicate submission for both (so I can see four submissions in the table now).

Did I make a mistake in the form that's causing this? Or is there something I can add in to fix the issue? There's a widget that's tracking space available in the form, and the double submissions are creating inaccurate remaining space, so it's important to get it fixed. It's also linked through Zapier to Salesforce to create an opportunity every time someone fills it out, so it's creating duplicates there as well.

Let me know if you have questions/need any clarfications!

    Thanks,

    Esther

    Hi Esther,

Thank you for reaching out to Jotform Support. I have checked and cloned your form but couldn’t replicate the issue. Can you try using the Unique Field feature to see if it helps? If you use the Unique Field feature for the email field, your users will not be able to send more than one submission. Let me show you how to do it:

    1. In Form Builder, click on the Settings tab in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page.

    2. Click on the Form Settings menu on the left of the page and click on Show More Options.

    3. Scroll down and find the Unique Field option. Click on the dropdown menu and select the email field you want to check.

You can check out this guide to learn more.

Give it a try, and let us know if you need any help.

    Hi Oliver!

Thanks so much for your help. I can give that a try, but just to double check - sometimes a user will need to be able to fill it out two separate times (for example: if they have two children enrolling in our program). Will they still be able to do that, it will the Unique Field feature prevent that?

    Thank you!

    Esther

    Hello Esther,

Thanks for getting back to us. You can choose a field to limit. For example, you can use the Unique field to limit the Name on a Short Text field so the submitter will not be able to submit twice with the same Name. Here's a screenshot of what they will get:

Awesome. One more thing to double check - if I choose to limit the "Applicant First Name" field (for example), and two separate users try to register a student using the same first name (ex: one student named Rachel registers & then another family tries to register a student named Rachel), will it prevent the second user from submitting the form? Or will it only apply for a user on the same IP address?

Let me know if that question doesn't make sense! Thanks so much for the help.

    Hi Esther,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Yes, if you choose to limit the Applicant First Name field as a Unique Field, this will prevent the second form filler to submit the form if they have the same name. What I can suggest is you store both of the First and Last name's value in a Short Text field called Full Name so you can set it as a Unique Field. This way the Unique Field will check the complete name of the applicant. Let me walk you through it:

    1. In Form Builder, add a Short Text element and name it Applicant Full Name. You may hide or show this field.

    2. Go to the Settings tab.

    3. Go to Conditions and add this:

    4. Go to Form Settings and assign the Applicant Full Name field in the Unique Field.

Form fillers will now be able to submit the form with the same first name.

Reach out again if you have any other questions.
