Shrink Fields Behavior Not Working Properly

When I now go to shrink a field so that I can add multiple fields to one line, the "shrinked" field gets centered on the form and does not allow me to add another field to that line. In the past, when I shrunk a field, that field would align left on the form and it was no problem adding another field or two to that line. Any suggestions?
