How to hide the paragraph field not included in another section

  • sroyal
Asked on June 9, 2023 at 3:05 PM

I have a form that covers several different sections which are chosen from a list. The Heading for one of the sections is appearing between each of the other separate sections. - but in Publish only. They should not be there. These extra Headings do not appear in the Build mode.

Why is this one normal heading appearing between each section and how do I get rid of them?

See file below. The top image is as it should in Build before its section. The bottom image is as it appears between the various sections in Publish mode. It should not be there.

I cannot figure out why the Heading appears between sections when it does not appear except in one place in Build. Please help.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi sroyal,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I have checked your form, and I can see that this is just a Paragraph Field and you can delete it. Let me show you how:

    • In Form Builder, click on the Paragraph Field to see the red Trash Icon.
    • Click on the red Trash Icon to remove it.

Give it a try and reach out again if you have any other questions.

    Hi Abdul,

Thanks for your help. I realize that it is just a paragraph. I deleted it and re-entered it. The problem is that if you look at the published form, that paragraph appears not only before the L-n-L section, but before the Workshop, Speed Networking, and the Social Gathering sections as well. I did not put the paragraphs there - they should not appear at those locations.

In the build mode, this paragraph appears only once, where it belongs, on top of the L-n-L section. But, when published, it shows up between the other sections as well. Why? Because the paragraph does not appear in between the other sections in the build mode, I can't delete it from just those places.

This is strange. I've never seen this before. This form is used a lot and I need to get it fixed. Please take another look and tell me how to include the paragraph only once in the build mode and nowhere else in the publish mode.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back to us. The Paragraph field shows because it is an independent field with no condition set to hide it. If you don't want it to show on the other events choices, you can add a Hide condition to each event selected. Let me show you how:

    • In your Choose Event Type condition, add another condition that will Hide the Paragraph field. Then click Save.

In the sample condition above, I created another condition that if the Workshop event is selected, it will hide the EHC Lunch n Learn field. Here's the result:

You can do this to all the events choices so it won't show the paragraph field.

That's it. Give it a try and let us know if you need any more help.

    Hi Elron,

Your help is sincerely appreciated. I hid the paragraph as you instructed for all of the appropriate Events. However, there is still one of these paragraphs near the beginning of the form (see file or just click on the published version of the form). When I try to remove in Conditions, the field (3. This form is used by RPCN...) is grayed out. Actually, I'm not even sure where to find the correct field for this one remaining un-hidden paragraph.

Please tell me how to hide this field.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back to us. I checked the form, and the field you're referring to is the second field after the Heading field. See the screenshot below:

If you're unable to see the field from the previously created conditions, you can try creating a separate condition for it like the above screenshot.

Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

    Hi Elron,

This should not be a big problem, but when I follow your instructions, the paragraph is still there, under "Note: RPCN may change the title and/or the wording for marketing purposes. " I'm not sure I understand your reasoning here, but it did not hide the paragraph. It seems like it is just there and not related to anything else, so I am still confused.

Your continued advice would be appreciated.

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for patiently waiting. I can see that this paragraph appears only when selecting the EHC Lunch-n-Learn option:

And it doesn't appear under any other event. Could you please take a screenshot of what’s happening and send it to us? This guide will show you how to do that.

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to help you with this.

Your statement about the paragraph appearing only when the LNL button is chosen is not correct from my end. That is exactly the problem - on the opening page, it appears under the choices and IT SHOULD NOT APPEAR THERE on this page. It should appear only after LnL is chosen, not here on the opening before it is chosen.

I have enclosed a screenshot with some explanation of the problem. I hope it helps.

Thanks very much for being so patient with me.

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back to us with additional information. If you want to hide the paragraph field and only show it when EHC LnL is selected, you can hide it in the properties, then create a condition to show it. Let me show you how:

    • In Form Builder, click on the gear icon of the paragraph field.
    • Go to the Advanced tab, then enable the Hide field option.

This will automatically Hide the field. Then in your EHC LnL condition, add the paragraph field to your show multiple conditions:

I included the Submit item (96. Submit) in the highllighed list. Then I discovered that the Submit button is not showing anywhere in the form, including at the bottom of each section. To bring back the button, I un-highlighted it (96.Submit) in Conditions. Now, the form works, but the Submit button is visible where the paragraph was before we hid it.

Your demo results show the Submit button as it should be. In the Conditions, I highlighted the items all the way to 96. Submit. Did I do it correctly?

I need the Submit button to appear at the bottom of each section, but NOT where it is below.

I know I thought we were finished with this request, but not quite. Your help is appreciated.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back to us and we're sorry you're having difficulties setting up the condition in your form. When building conditions, it's a good practice to keep your conditions as modular as possible where each field is only affected directly by the field it should show or hide on. Also, having a show condition for a field will automatically hide it if that condition/s is not met. This means that creating a hide condition for that field is not necessary and may just cause conflicts.

As for your form, I cloned it on my end then tested it. I found that the submit button is now at the bottom of your form every time a selection is made. Please check out the screencast below for my results:

How to hide the paragraph field not included in another section Image 1 Screenshot 20

The same is also applied to your actual form during my tests. In any case, I've gone ahead and cleared your form's cache which should help. Please try your form again using another browser and let us know how it goes. If you need further assistance, please let us know together with the options to be selected, and which fields they should appear or be hidden. This will help us understand what you need exactly and allow us to navigate through your conditions easier.

Reach out again if you need any help.

    Hi Raymond,

Thanks for your help. I realize that all of the Submit buttons work in the form. Thanks for checking.

My problem is that the Submit button is appearing on the opening page right below the list of Event choices. It does not belong there. This means that there is an error in the Conditions, but I don't know where it is.

You can help me by showing me how the Conditions must change so that:

    1. The Submit button works for all types of Events (like they do now) and
    2. The Submit button does NOT appear under the Event choices othe opening page.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Thanks for getting back to us. Since this is a new question, I've moved it to a separate thread, just to avoid confusion. You can check out my reply to that here.
