Language tool is setting wrong language as original language

Asked by xentive on March 26, 2015 at 05:24 AM

    Dear,

There is a bug in translation :

    - My default langage is English (so, I have not access to the button "Set Default", it is normal) , but normaly, I can't edit langage, but I have access to the button "Edit"

    - For Deutsch,  I have access normally to "Set Default", "Edit", "Remove"

    - For Francais, I have access to the button "Set Default", but I can edit it, because I have the button "Original language can not be edited" ! it is not normal...

Can you see this problem ? I have the same problem in all my form, but sometimes, it is for french, and sometime for German.

    Thank you for your feedback

    Hi Isabelle,

After reviewing your form, I am seeing that when your form was created, the language that it was created in was "French" but you wrote the form field information in English while the language was set to French.

When you add other languages, the system is interpreting that you are translating your form from French to these other languages. Then when you set English as your default language, you are choosing what language should be shown when the form is loaded and not the language that is has been written in.

That is the reason that you do not get the option to edit the translations for French as any edits you would like to make would be done directly on the form.

I hope this helps, please inform us if you need further assistance.

    Dear,

Thank you for your answer. I understand, but I not agree with you.

When I have created at the beginning my form, the initial langage was English. You can see this because when you go on the form http://form.jotformeu.com/form/42393142462350, you can see that the french is correctly translated.

But if you go now in the edition of the form, you can't find the translation in french. And if I try to change my form, all french translation disapeared.

So there is really a problem since some days... I don't understand this change, and I don't want to lost all my translation...

    Regards

    Isabelle

If the original language of the form was French and the form was built in French and then translated into other languages, this would be normal. But as you mention that you created the form with English as original language, then you should only have the options "Set Default / Original language can not be edited" for the English language.

I will forward this situation to our developers so they can analyse better this situation.

Please let us know which other forms are presenting this situation so I can forward this situation to our developers.

We'll contact you as soon as we have more details.

I tested the form and could replicate the same situation:

Please try reverting to a previous version to see if it solves:

Let us know if the problem persists.

    Dear,

I have tried to do that yesterday, and it solves the problem. But each time I tried to correct again a translation, I have the same problem...

I added this information to the ticket so our developers can take it into consideration.

From my tests this is connected with the "allow multiple" option of the upload field:

As soon as I disabled it the language menu started to work normally. You can test the cloned form:

Is this solved and what's the solution? I created my form in English and want to translate a Dutch version but it's not allowing me to do that. It keeps on saying Dutch is the original language which isn't correct. It's english?
