I was wondering if there is any way to grey out the remaining checkboxes when a user selects 5 boxes, i would like the others to grey out and not be able to be clicked.
Unfortunately, it's not possible to set a maximum selections in the Checkbox In Dropdown widget. Let me forward forward this thread to our developers as a feature request. If there are updates, you should know it via this thread.
For now, you may consider using our default Checkbox field from Form Tools. In the field properties, you have the option to set a maximum selections:
