    Setting radio and checkbox labels as column names and x for the selected values

    Asked by swalker286 on April 20, 2015 at 01:37 PM

    I had this option in Adobe Forms Central, and when the forms are converted JOt is not reading it proper and I've lost a lot of responses.

    At first I was very excited about Jot, but I'm really discovering alot of bugs here that are not helping me in anyway.  I needed a seamless transition, as you advertised.  That's not what I'm getting.

    If I understood you correctly, there was an option to have one label shown on a form, but a different shown in the submissions themselves, which resulted in your data being corrupt after import?

    If that is true, please do let us know what are the AFC forms with this option turned on and their alternatives on JotForm so that we can properly raise this to our developers for inspection and re-import.

    Thank you for the links.

    Could you just confirm if I had understood you properly that the data displayed does not match the data that is saved into the database in AFC, so when the data was imported, it was not imported correctly?

    That would help us raise this to our team.

    Thank you.

    No you didn't actually.

    A check box should simply respond a yes/no true/false response.  It should not be contingent upon a label.  Just checked vs not checked.

    A radio button should respond the labeled option.  As radio buttons actually have OPTIONS.

    I am still having a bit of an issue understanding the actual issue here, since you can rename the radio buttons to have any label and each of the check boxes as well. Once someone makes the selection, the submissions show the selected label(s).

    Based on what you have mentioned, I believe that you are looking for the checkbox to give you:

    Label: Are you sure?

    [] Yes

    [] No

    And then in submissions "Are you sure? - Yes" - which is how our system will show the values as it is.

    I do not want yes or no listed.  I only want a check box.

    They way you guys have things coded there is no damn difference in a radio button or a check box.

    A check box simply is a selection WITHOUT options.

    A radio button has OPTIONS, requiring a question/label & options.

    I want these as separate columns in my submissions:

    Form:

    [ ] Event 1

    [X] Event 2

    [ ] Event 3

    [X] Event 4

    Submissions Table:

    Event 1   |  Event 2  |  Event 3  |  Event 4 |

                 |       X      |               |     X       |

    The Submission Table look like this

    Submissions Table:

    Event 1   |  Event 2  |  Event 3  |  Event 4 |

                 |       X      |               |     X       |

    because in your jotform http://www.jotform.us/form/50837486300152each Checkbox Option are set as individual field instead of selection list option of a field.

    if you want the Submission Table to like this

    Form:

    [ ] Event 1

    [X] Event 2

    [ ] Event 3

    [X] Event 4

    you should setup the Checkbox field like this

    so it should look like this

    the Submission Table will become

    Please Select your races:

    [ ] Event 1

    [X] Event 2

    [ ] Event 3

    [X] Event 4

    Hope this help. Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Thanks.

    I do not want a check list.  I want a single check box.

    Can you please clarify first if you meant also the submission data to be contained into single column/header only

    Thanks.

    No, I said I want them in separate columns.  I do not want a list in each cell in my submission table.  LIke this!

    Thank you for the clarification.

    Base on the screenshot you had provided I now understand exactly how you meant.

    Although the form http://www.jotform.us/form/50837486300152 Submission Data/Table is working already..

    what you actually wanted is for the values/data to 'X' only. As is now, the value for each column/header is the label/question name of the Checkbox field.

    Example:

    (column) PC1 = "Circle K NHRA...etc etc"

    what wanted it to be is like this

    (column) PC1 = "X"

    Please confirm if I understand it correctly this time. We will try look for a workaround to have an output like this.

    Thanks.

    I must ask if the two accounts (swalker286 and  jpeterson01) are connected in some manner? Or are you @jpeterson01 just looking for the same feature?

    Thank you.

    As per my reply on the other thread here: http://www.jotform.com/answers/550071 I am raising this as a feature to our developers.

    Seeing how it would change how the data is gathered and how many people are used to receiving the data, this is very unlikely to be a quick update. This does not mean however that it would be at all.

    We will raise it and then it will be seen by our developers if this is possible to implement - either to replace the current way the data is captured, or to allow a selection of the desired behavior.

    As soon as there is any update however we will update you about it through this thread.

    I did raise the thread as mentioned, but wanted to see if there is an alternative road that might work as you want it to, and I believe that I found it.

    Do check this form: http://form.jotformpro.com/form/52046884965973 by cloning it to your account and then trying to submit it. After that check your Submissions panel.

    You should see something like this:

    You can clone it by following the steps shown here: How to Clone an Existing Form from a URL

    If that is what you would like to use then this is the CSS code that you would need to add to your form:

    .form-checkbox-item > label {
        visibility: hidden;
    }
    .form-checkbox-item > label:before, .form-checkbox-item > label:after {
        visibility: visible;
    }
    #id_29 .form-checkbox-item:after {
        color: white;
        content: "Circle K NHRA Winternationls - Pomona, CA";
    }

        left: 30px;
        opacity: 1;
        width: 500px;
    }

    That is all of it.

    You can add it by following the steps here: Inject Custom CSS Codes

    Please do note that this is not something that will change your previous submissions, it will only set them to be shown in this manner from now on.

    Also, one more step, which is very important for this to work, is to go to each checkbox and set the option (label) to show "X" instead of the text that was there before. This is now shown through the CSS instead (if you go with the option above).

    Of course if you have any questions do let us know and we would be happy to answer them
