How to filter submission data and export to excel?

Asked by Charlie on April 28, 2015 at 09:15 PM

I love using JotForms - the forms are excellent and I have set up my students using it daily to log the management of our sheep flock.  That side of it is working really well.

Our problem is in extracting reports and exporting them to Excel. So far we have access to submissions in four ways but each has frustrating deficiencies:

1  Submissions view - it is possible to filter and export to Excel here but the interface is frustratingly clunky. Both resizing columns and hiding columns is a waste of time as it reverts to the original layout as soon as any other functions are used. Can this be addressed?

2  Grid Report - a much more user friendly grid layout with most of the functionality of submission view except no Excel export!  Ahhhh!!

3  Excel Report - no filtering!! We don't want all the submissions exported every time.

4  Export to Google Spreadsheets - very messy to set up in such a way that student scan easily use it.

Looking through the Forum, there are many many requests for the ability to either export the Grid Report data or be able to filter the data for an Excel report. Basically the functionality of these two needs to be brought together.

Please, please move this request up your priority list!!!

Are there any other options that I have missed?  Any other suggestions?  I have only been using JotForm for few weeks and do love it except for this problem.

    Thanks

    Charlie

    Hello Charlie,

Yes these are the options to export submission to excel.

If I understand your requirement correctly, you want to filter the submission and then export it to excel. Is that correct?

Can you please let me know your requirement a bit more in detail? How you want to filter he submissions? Do you search for a text to filter submissions? You can do that form your form's submission page as well. You need to just filter the submissions, select them and then export them to excel. Please check the screenshot below:

If this is not what you wanted to achieve, do get back to us with your requirement a bit more in detail and we will send a feature request to our back end team.

We will wait for your response.

    Thank you!

    Thank you again Ashwin,

I have entered another thread to further explain why the public submission view does not work for exporting the fields we want to Excel. It is at "Please fix column selection in public view of submissions".

Thank you for all the work you put in answering our questions so promptly and comprehensively.

    Regards

    Charlie

OK, I see that this is connected to the thread that I have just replied to, but you have included much more details here.

Please do not open multiple threads in regards to the same issue, but instead lets keep it all in one single thread (this one) so that we can properly assist you with this.

This is the link to this thread: http://www.jotform.com/answers/560821 because in another thread you have only mentioned Excel, while focus was on Grid view.

If you however want to just permanently limit the fields that will be shown, there is a different way to do it in the Submissions Panel, and you could share the access to submissions themselves instead.
