How do I enable users to come back later to complete the survey?

some users' get error messages (in lavender across the top, Adobe style) saying they can't save the data they input into the form except by printing it. Sometimes they're able later to save it, but I want them to be able to save their responses halfway through and come back later or the next day to complete the survey and submit it (of course saving a copy of their responses at that point).

I understand that you want to enable the users to save the form entries so that they will be able to fill the survey later. This can be achieved by enabling the Auto-fill option from the Form Preferences.
