How to encrypt file attachments?

    Dear Sir/Madam,

is there a way to ensure that the attachments that come with submissions are kept safe? As a study abroad organization we handle attachments such as passport copies which contain personal information. We don't want there to be any way that these attachments could land in wrong hands. At the moment anyone in the possession of a given attachment link could download, even if they are not logged on to our account or to any Jotform whatsoever. Is there a way to encrypt them?

    Hello asiaexchange,

Please be noted that we do not encrypt any submission data including the file uploads. If the URL of the file uploaded is shared, anyone with the URL will be able to download the file. Unfortunately, there is no workaround available to encrypt or disable the file download.

There is one possible solution which I can think and here are the steps you should follow:

#1. Integrate your form with desired integration to send uploads to 3rd party storage. Here are the options available:

    Google drive:  http://www.jotform.com/help/192-How-to-Integrate-a-Form-with-Google-Drive

    Dropbox:  http://www.jotform.com/help/77-Upload-to-Dropbox-with-JotForm

    Box:  http://www.jotform.com/blog/79-JotForm-now-Integrates-with-Box

You can also send the uploads to your own FTP server as well:  http://www.jotform.com/help/177-How-to-Enable-FTP-on-Form-Submissions

#2. Once done, you can take advantage of our "Auto Delete Submissions" app which will delete the submissions as soon as it is received. Deleting a submission record will also delete the attached file as well.

    Hope this helps.

Do get back to us if you have any questions.

    Thank you!

Update: you can now restrict access to the uploaded file links by making them accessible only if you are logged into your JotForm account, please check this blog post for more details: https://www.jotform.com/blog/259-Keeping-Your-Uploads-Secure
