There are green check marks under my username, and password including the confirmation of the password but not under my email address.

Try clearing your browsers cache and cookies then attempting to register once again. I just checked to make sure I could still register accounts and was able to do so without issue:
I did not see an account registered with you email address so that should not be the issue.
If it still doesn't allow you to create an account, if possible, try another browser. If it still does not
allow you to, let us know and we will see what else we can do.
