It is not really clear how you wanted to do this. Please provide us more details and we will check further.
From what I got so far, could it be you were trying to achieve the same thing that was described on this user guide:
In the user guide, the solution will allow conditional email to be sent base on the selected option. In your case, the option can be the Name/Email address that the end-user will pick from the Dropdown lists selection.
If the end-user selected a Name/Email from the list, upon submission of the form, the email will be sent to the assigned Name/Email pick by the user.

Not sure this answers it. I want the submitter of the form to pick their name from a drop list. When submitted all forms must come to me by default

If you have the list of name for your users, you would create a drop down field and add the name to the list.
We also have our User Contributed Dropdown widget, this would allow you to add a list of names to your dropdown and give your users the option to add their names for future use.
