field value not appearing on Thank You message

The New Order Total field value is not always appearing on my Thank You message.  It seems to only appear in the Thank You message when the field is shown on the form.  (It only appears if the original order amt is < $415 or the user selects "Full suit" ordered after ordering a mainsail, jib, and spinnaker.  A value for the field is calculated regardless, but the field is only shown under these circumstances.  See conditions.)  i.e. When the field is not shown on the form, the value also fails to appear in the Thank You message.  Can I do anything about this?

    Hi bdoodle,

    Thanks for contacting us.

Can you try creating a new Calculation field and use this new Calculation field in your Thank You message. You can follow the instructions below to do this.

Thank you for your response.  I have the same fields on maybe 10 other forms.  Before I bother to do this, please tell me the rationale.    Also, please tell me if it's ok, in principle, to use values from fields on the form that are not shown on the Thank You message.  (These values need to appear on the email too.)

Please confirm- are you saying that I should leave the existing fields, create a new hidden calc field, copy the value from the original field into it, and use the new field on the Thank You message?

    Thanks!

    Hi bdoodle,

As per further checking, when you show/hide a field using a condition, when the field is hidden the value for the field is empty (it will reflect to the emails and Thank You Page fields). When a field is hidden based on a condition, it is assumed that the field is not needed (since you have hidden the field). However, when you add a field that will be hidden always, it is assumed that you are using this field for own purposes (like computations) but you do not want this field to be seen by your user.

    Regarding your question:

"Please confirm- are you saying that I should leave the existing fields, create a new hidden calc field, copy the value from the original field into it, and use the new field on the Thank You message?"

Yes, this is a workaround that I recommend for you to retain/able to display the existing field as is without having problems in your Thank You page.

If you are hesitating to update your form, you can clone your form and try it on your cloned form for you to test the workaround.

Do let us know if you need further assistance.

    Regards.
