Form Calulations of a text in matrix field

Form calculations on a matrix field but I want text to be counted ie: if text=Y count 1 else 0 is this an option or matrix pass / fail??

Could you please give us a bit more details in regards to your request? If I understood you correctly, you want to use Form Calculation to count all the "Y" in the matrix and if there is no "Y" in any cell, it should stay at 0?
