Import Data App: No template for Matrix fieldsAsked by adatshalom on July 21, 2015 at 08:44 AM
I cloned my 2014 version of the form (https://www.adatshalom.net/19-spiritual-community/259-yizkor-book) and edited it, retaining a number of fields (see preview at http://form.jotformpro.com/form/52013302308943).
I then downloaded to Excel the 2014 submissions. However, when I went to edit that file, I find that while the downloaded data had broken the Matrix into each component field, the import tool was looking for a single column with the matrix data in one field.
How can I download the 2014 submissions so that I get a single Matrix column so I can match up the data?
The later version of the Import App, I believe, has problems on importing submissions with Matrix field. Our developers just recently updated the Import Data App, you can check this thread link about it.
However, I tested the Import Data App again and it seems like there's still problem on that update. I will escalate this to our developers to have it checked.
We will update you as soon as we hear any news on this matter.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
Thanks ... but isn't the issue the export feature, rather than the import data app? That is, is there a way to export submissions in the matrix field to match up with what the import data app is looking for (instead of being split into multiple columns)?
Looking into this more, I think I can fake this out, but I need to understand your example of matrix data:
Clarke|Heinlein,Heinlein|Asimov,text sample|text sample 2,text sample|text sample,Asimov|text sample,Asimov|text sample 2,Clarke|Asimov,Asimov|Asimov,text sample 2|Clarke,Asimov|Heinlein
What did this look like in a matrix
Or, alternatively, if I have a matrix in which each row has two columns, with two or more words in each column, how should this appear in the data to import. Thus, for example:
Yizkor book entries
Flora Moder Donna & Scott F. Cohen Irving Moder Donna Cohen Edwin M. Cohen Donna & Scott F. Cohen
We had previous reports from users that they are unable to import submissions on Matrix fields. Currently, it would much more difficult to change the excel export rather than fixing the template format in the Import Data App.
The problem lies on what format/template does the Import Data App accepts. And this is dependent on how the developers update that app, I currently do not have knowledge of this, so it would be hard to test it in our end. Especially the Import Data App itself does not show any format to accept the Matrix field.
We will need to wait for the developers to have this fix, but you can make some test in your end if you want.
Thanks. I will test some more, but in the meantimecould you tell me why at http://form.jotformpro.com/form/52013302308943 , the imported data for evening and daytime phone numbers show up in the submissions full downloadable display, but do not show up in the individual submission display (or on the editable form)?
FYI. Matrix import works beautifully once you modify the Excel spreadsheet ... your requirements are the | character between columns and , between rows
Your concern about the data showing in the downloadable submission, but not on the Submission view will be addressed on this thread: http://www.jotform.com/answers/616035
