    I'm not sure I understand the "why" of creating a dummy Free field with Paypal... can you explain?

    Paypal fields with only one 'product' will not show on the form. 

    It's not absolutely necessary to create the 'dummy' product. Its just there so we can give the user feedback to select the product (and its price) in the Paypal field then expect his redirection to Paypal upon submittal of the form. 

    It would work much the same, if you leave your Paypal field with only one product. You would still get the redirection to Paypal for payment, its just the Paypal field (with product name and price) would just not be shown on the form.
