Does submitting fillable pdfs require Acrobat?

Hello!

I'm a big fan of the fillable forms option, but I haven't had any success submitting my forms and viewing the results online. 
From what I'm reading, it seems that Adobe Reader is insufficient to submit these forms (same with Mac's Preview), and that I'll need all of my respondents to have acrobat for this to be of any use- is this the case?

It is not necessary to have Acrobat to fill in the PDF forms. You may also use Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader instead of Adobe Acrobat. Please take a look at the following guide that can help in understanding the Filling PDF better.
