The hide field property setting breaks when you apply show or hide conditional logic to those fieldsAsked by GICS on October 24, 2015 at 02:30 AM
This form has been in existence for a number of months. Everything was working fine until today when I wanted to make a couple of further edits.
Two fields near the top of the form are hidden.
These are Start Date of Competition and Solo Entry Fee.
However, when the form is published, the fields are no longer hidden.
Can you please advise how to fix this?
After reviewing your condition, I notice that your condition number 157 enables this 2 fields to be displayed.
This condition indicates that if the checkbox (last field in your form) is filled (checked), then hide all those fields. Since this check box is filled at the end of the form. this fields by default will display.
Please let us know if this helps
Thanks you for your response.
I find it difficult to understand why these "hidden"fields were working the last time I used the form some 2 months or so ago. Non of the fields that use the "hide field"parameter setting are working in the form. I also struggle with the logic that you indicated in your post that the condition says that if the checkbox is ticked AND that the fields should be hidden, that the fields will then display by default.
I have another text field that has the word TOTAL in it and this remains unchanged at all times. So I used this constant value to run a hide field condition that now works for all the "hidden fields" that were not working.
I notice that you have hidden those two fields permanently via field properties (the gear icon)as shown below:
This should supersede any show/hide condition you may apply to those two fields - so ideally they should not show at any time when the form is published (logically).
I created a test form to troubleshoot the situation - and it seems that the fields might show if:
1. When You've hidden the field permanently but have applied a "hide" condition to it (whether the condition is true or not)
2. When you've hidden the fields permanently, but apply a "show" condition to it (the show condition has to be true)
It seems the workflow for conditional logic vs permanently hidden fields needs reviewing.
I'm alerting our developers about this so that they can take a look and resolve the issue.
Tagent- - I'm also trying to understand why you have a "hide" condition (condition no. 161) on those two fields - while they should always be hidden anyway - just wondering - clarity would help a lot.
You will get an update on this thread - thank you for your patience.
Many thanks for taking this forward.
My expectation of a hidden field set via field properties would be that the field was always hidden regardless of any condition applied (even a mistaken one).
I thought as much -
Thank you Peter.
Our developers will take a look at this and advice.
Thank you for your patience - much appreciated.
Your developers have not responded to this question as yet....
I'm sorry for the delay. It seems that this request has been cancelled and will ask them specifically the reason.
It seems that the jotform was design to work as is at the moment. You can't not prematurely hide fields. As long as these fields are not included in the show/hide condition, they should not appear at all.
