Can I use a unique ID rather than email address to save and continue a session?

In forum posts, it is commonly discussed to use an email address to save and continue later : http://www.jotform.com/help/97-How-to-Save-Forms-and-Continue-Later

What if i used a uniqueID generated by my "login" page and the information is stored with respect to the uniquieID.

One of my concerns are, I am carrying out monthly surveys and 1 month from now, the user would re-use the same email address and his old data would repopulate the survey.

    Suggestions? and is this allowed?

    Thanks!

Yes, you can do that. I have used it in several occasions as well. The reason why we suggest email address is because you can be sure that people will know exactly how to get back to your form since it is their email.

Now there is also one more thing to point out. The Save for later option that uses (email) sessions will work for as long as the form is not submitted. Once submitted the session has matured and is deleted on our servers.

You can look at it as if session matures into a submission.

So if they use the same link later on, they will no longer get their old data, but instead, they will be creating brand new session, again associated with their email.

So to answer your questions in short manner, yes you can use anything for session, but it is hard to create unique value that people will remember, so emails are a great thing to use for this, while the session will only last until the first submit.

If you are seeing the data even after you submit the form, that can happen only if you turn on the Auto Fill option as well: How to Enable Auto Fill Feature - which for your case I would say that it should either have very low value to save the data for or be completely turned off.

Do let us know if you have any further questions and we would be happy to assist :)

I have 1 survey with 10 different forms, was looking at different ways to connect the different surveys.

The links for the 10 surveys would be sent to them via email when they register with the session set as the email address and i'll pass a uniqueID with the link.

Going to test it to see if my idea works.

Thank you, I am always impressed by the high quality of response from the support team. Your response was very helpful and helped me understand how sessions work.
