How do you change the field positions?

How do you change the field positions? I'm not talking about moving them within the form, but relative to each other.  I'm creating a form and in many instances the input fields are stacked, rather than side by side.  For instance, my fields to input First and Last Names are VERTICALLY stacked.  I want them side by side.  I KNOW there is a way, because off the tutorials have the same fields positioned side by side, and not stacked vertically.  HELP!

ALSO is it possible to put two "questions" on the same line?   Let's say I add a Phone Number filed, and I want to add a second Phone Field.   Just dragging or clicking puts them vertically under each other.   But I'd like them to be on the same line.  Is THAT possible?

    Thank You
