How does Jotform receive notification from PayPal that a payment has been made?

If the PayPal account on my form is a personal account, and therefore does not have a configurable IPN, how does Jotform receive notification of a successful payment from PayPal?

    Hello ASRA,

JotForm receives IPN notification from PayPal if the payment went through successful or not. Actually you do not have to actually configure any IPN. When you integrate your form with PayPal, IPN URL is set. For your forms to work normally, you just need to ensure that IPN is enabled in your account. You may like to take a look at the following guide on how to enable IPN: https://www.jotform.com/help/276-How-to-Enable-IPN-for-Paypal

    Hope this helps.

Do get back to us if you have nay questions.

    Thank you!

My question related to personal PayPal accounts, where there is no way to set IPN on or off, or to set a URL for the IPN.

Does that mean that Jotform is somehow sending PayPal an IPN URL, and Paypal is responding to it appropriately, even for a personal PayPal account?

I would like to inform you that a business type account is required to be able to receive payments and enable the IPN in paypal. Otherwise, all the payments will be treated as incomplete. If you are currently using a personal paypal account, I would suggest upgrading to business type so you can enable the IPN.

    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

You say that payments to personal accounts through Jotform will ALL be treated as incomplete. That is not true; I have many forms that use personal PayPal accounts, and yet these forms work perfectly; completed payments are treated as completed submissions, and incomplete payments are treated as incomplete submissions.

Clearly there must be some form of communication from PayPal back to Jotform to indicate that the payment has occurred.

We send our IPN URL with every PayPal transaction, but I do not think that we have any special fallback for the PayPal Standard accounts. I assume that this means that PayPal does honor received IPN URL variable.
