Can you use the same email address to fill out the form for two different people?

    We've set up the form with an introduction page asking for the applicant's email address, so that once they submit it, the link to the main application form is emailed to them. In this way, the applicants can have the auto-save function and go back to work on the form whenever they can. (I modeled this after an answer I saw to another client's question on the jotform support forum).

    I currently have an applicant who is trying to use her email address to fill out the two different forms for herself and her son. However, she says that after submitting the form once for her son, she went back to fill out the form for herself and found that the fields were auto-populated with her son's information. If she uses the same email address and changes the information, will that affect the information of the son's already submitted application form? If they need to edit something on the son's form, will they no longer be able to because she's already used her email address for her own information?

    I hope this questions is clear! Thank you for your help!

    If she is using the same session link, then there would be conflicts between data she is entering, and data her son is entering. In other words, each person should use a different session link in order to have their own session for filling out your form.

    Your current session link in email autoresponder and thank you message is set to this:

    https://form.jotform.com/52795473827167?session={email3}

    This means that a person using john@example.com email address would end up with the following session link:

    https://form.jotform.com/52795473827167?session=john@example.com

    If two people use the same email address, they would be using the exact same session. The good thing is that changing even a single character in the session link would create a completely new session.

    1. If this user will be a single exception where two people are using the same email, you can simply tell the mother to use a slightly changed session link, such as by appending anything to the end of the session link that her son used:

    https://form.jotform.com/52795473827167?session=john@example.com-for-mom

    In the above example, I've simply added "-for-mom" to the end of the session link that the mother can use, and she would be using a new session.

    2. You can also make this a more permanent solution, by using combined data from both your email field and full name field to create a session:

    https://form.jotform.com/52795473827167?session={email3}{fullName}

    If you use the link from above in your autoresponder emails and on the thank you message, the session link would be different depending both on the name and email address entered on the first form. This means that different people could use the same email address for their form filling session.

    If you need any further assistance, or any clarifications regarding the above, please let us know - we are here and happy to help.

    Thank you for your help, Boris! That does clarify things quite a bit!

    So if I want to go with the permanent solution, do I simply incorporate the link https://form.jotform.com/52795473827167?session={email3}{fullName}

    in the actual email itself? My autoresponder emails with the confirmation of their submission sends the application information to the applicant's email. Where in the email do I use the link? Do I also have to change this for the introduction page as well?

    Thank you for your help!

    On behalf of my colleague, you are welcome.

    Yes, correct. You should use the link and put it into the Introduction Form. You should add the link to the autoresponder, you can also add the link to your notifier so you'll have a copy of the link. For your convenience, I did this to your autoresponder email.

    Oh, I see! Thank you so much! That clarifies things a lot! I've added the link to my notifier email and Thank You page to direct them to the main application as well. Since they should be entering the session via the link sent to their email after filling out the introduction page, I do not have to change the main application form itself, correct?

    Thank you for your help!

    On behalf of my colleagues, you're welcome.

    No, you do not have to change anything else, since you have already the link updated in the thank you page as well as on the auto-responder email, this will get the data entered by the submitter and it will send her to the form that you want her to fill out.
