DateTime Calendar (Lite Mode Enabled): Unable to manually enter date delimiters like dot because it opens a telephone keyboard on iPhone

Asked by brigels on May 14, 2016 at 06:48 PM

Our customer is complaining that he can not edit the date input (dot-formatted) on his iPhone (see attached image). I see that the date input has a type "tel", which activates a keyboard on the iPhone that does not allow the input of periods.

How can we work around this? (I cannot change the inputs now because of the complicated logic conditions they are already used in)

Your date field is delimited with a dot and you're right, dots are not seen on telephone (tel) keyboard.

How about using the calendar instead? That's actually the purpose of the calendar button beside it.

I suggest to enable the calendar popup option by default so once the date field is clicked, it should open right away.

I have also escalated this to our developers, I hope they will consider looking into this in the future. I also believe that it should open the number keyboard instead of the telephone keyboard.
