Is there a way to make jotform reject uploaded documents if they don't meet a certain requirement?

Asked by E151815 on May 17, 2016 at 03:22 PM

    Hi,

I'm assisting my department in Austin Independent School District.  We are trying to set up a method for students to submit files to us.  One of the items we discussed was having a certain naming convention for the file to easily identify the student, school, and grade.

For example, we want students to name a file like so:  johnSmith_AustinHS_10.docx(or .pdf, .txt).  We tried this before and despite our best efforts we still wound up with documents that we weren't able to identify.  We're hoping jotform might have an answer for us.

Ideally, when a student uploads a file, if it doesn't match the naming conventions, the file would be rejected until the students named the file correctly.

Is this possible to do on jotform?

    Thanks,

    Eli Roberts

Unfortunately, there is not way to validate the file name that is being uploaded. You can only validate the type of file that is uploaded.

There might be a workaround using a text box with a mask. Again it is some what hard to validate since all the name are different sizes. You  can use the initials instead of the entire name.

To place a mask in the text box, press the INPUT MASK and enter the mask you which the names of the files to be. Check the check box FILL MASK VALIDATION. This will validate if the text enter is correct or not.

I have created a small form, you may clone the form and test it as you like.
