Toggle external URL

Hello,

is there a way to inform (call, cURL, ...) an external URL, after a new entry was entered by somebody?

Right now we have a server pulling data every view minutes. But beeing able to trigger this pull only when neccessary, would reduce the number of calls we would have to make significantly. And it would also be much faster (less delay after entering data and importing it into our systems).
