Subscription Change, refund request within 30 days

Hello, 

 I decided I wanted to go back to the FREE subscription and I thought I could cancel whenever I want but when I did it said that I wouldn't go to the FREE subscription until NEXT year! The whole point of me canceling was because I don't want to keep paying $5. So will since I already downgraded will I have to continue to pay $5/month or can I go to the FREE now?
