This problem occurs only with Internet Explorer on computers with Microsoft Office installed. It is a recurring problem, not just with Jotform, but with other services as well. IE is having a hard time identifying the application to open the file, thus it resorts to downloading the xlsx and docx documents as .zip files.

The easiest way to overcome this issue is to use another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Try using any of the two browsers to download your files and let us know if it helps or not.

One possible solution might to convert it to doc format using this:

Thanks for using jotform, lets know on progress

Are you referring to this link ?

When I click on it, my browser was able to recognize the file type just fine.
I think there must be some security setting in your browser that is preventing the file from being automatically opened as 'known' type.

Many clients are still using IE 8 with MS Office 2007. Per Microsoft, you need to add the mime type to the sever configuration.

    (1) MS IIS Server

    (2) Apache server -

    AddType application/ .docm
    AddType application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document docx
    AddType application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.template dotx
    AddType application/ potm
    AddType application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.template potx
    AddType application/ ppam
    AddType application/ ppsm
    AddType application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.slideshow ppsx
    AddType application/ pptm
    AddType application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation pptx
    AddType application/ xlam
    AddType application/ xlsb
    AddType application/ xlsm
    AddType application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet xlsx
    AddType application/ xltm
    AddType application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.template xltx

On our servers, we already have these mime-types configured in the configuration.

I see that your problem is related with our file holder (AmazonS3) and it was temporary.

I have checked with all common browsers to re-create the problem, but I have failed.

    I hope it's solved on your end,too.

    Kindest Regards,
