    Suggestion: Close Lightbox Easier by Clicking Outside the Form

    Asked by clicksem on March 29, 2012 at 01:25 PM

    Hi, putting lightbox forms in some sites may end with problems closing the forms. We want the forms to be closed easily if outside area of the forms is clicked for once.

    Is it possible to achieve in JotForm?

    lightbox click outside close lightbox user friendly

    thanks for the reply,

    the lightbox form already have a closing button itself as a default option. but as i said i'm looking for a better solution to close the form.

    as you can see from the sample site i'd added:

    http://clicksem.net/jotform/

    i want the form to be skipped or closed, when ever outside the form (meaning the gray area) is clicked.

    thanks for the help.

    @clicksem

    Currently, there is no way to implement that without drastically changing the feedback script. However, knowing that most lightbox scripts behave that way (i.e., closing when the non-lightbox area is clicked), your idea seems well-grounded and reasonable.

    With that in mind, I have attached a request ticket to this thread and forwarded it to our developers. We cannot guarantee whether it will get implemented, though. In any case it does get implemented, we will surely notify you via this thread.

    I feel that this can only be provided as an option because for certain larger forms with more input fields, users do not to accidently close the form after filling more than half of the form without clicking the Submit button.

    But this feature could be useful for simpler form or just act as an image viewer of which no significant data will be lost.

    @antoniooi,

    Thanks for the clarification. While we do not have such option for this on the lightbox embed option, I have come up a workaround for you. I have modified the feedback script and restore its original function. Example, when "dimmed" area is clicked it will not removed the feedback/lightbox form unless you clicked the "x" button.

    You can use the following feedback source: https://shots.jotform.com/elton/feedback_dimmed.js. You can also host this if you want. Simply replace the source found on the first line of your lightbox embed code. Example:

    <script src="https://shots.jotform.com/elton/feedback_dimmed.js" type="text/javascript">

    new JotformFeedback({

    formId:'30771202081947',

    base:'http://jotformpro.com/',

    windowTitle:'Title Me',

    background:'#FFA500',

    fontColor:'#FFFFFF',

    type:false,

    height:300,

    width:400

    });

    </script>

    Demo: https://shots.jotform.com/elton/feedback_form.html

    Hope this helps. Thanks!
