    Email Notification Message: Include the Date/time in the body

    Asked by rtform on March 29, 2012 at 09:04 PM

    Hi,

    I used these steps http://www.jotform.com/answers/23696-I-want-to-find-the-IP-address-from-where-the-message-came- to add the submission date and IP address to the online view of the submitted contact forms.

    So now the date and IP show up when I view the submitted Contact Us forms on the JotForm website.

    However what I really need is for the date and IP address to be added to the EMAILED results I get from the Contact Us form submission.  I say this because I plan to mostly go only by the emailed results and do not plan to or want to have to log into the Jotform website to see these results.

    Can you tell me how to add these fields so they apprear in the email?

    You can get the submissions with IP address and Date by click on your Submissions Button and then going to properties, as shown on the screen

    From there you can check the box for IP and Date

    Hope you find this explanation helpful

    Cheers!

    Hi - I do not know if you read my message in detail, but as I mentioned I ALREADY followed those exact steps. :)

    In doing so I *do* get the IP and Date in the online view of the submissions.  HOWEVER when I get the emailed form results the IP and Date do NOT appear.  I am trying to get this information in the email.  Please tell me how I can do this.

    Ok, now I gotcha and I apologize for not getting it first

    Here you have the steps

    Click on  emails alerts from toolbars and then click on notification

    From there you will be able to see the curent fields included, you can add the ip address from the right hand side, it will be added wherever you wish, on the example it goes on the subject field , but it can be placed on the body

    as shown below:

    Hope this one is a better help for you

    The Submission date appears to be have been completely ignored in the answer?

    I would like to add the submission date to a notification email. I have added this to the email template:

    Date & Time of Submission: {submissionDate}

    This does not work. Am I missing something?

    Can you advise on the exact field syntax for submission date - I would be most grateful

    Thanks, Regards Mark

    Hello Mark,

    I am sorry if this thread is a bit misleading. By default there is no 'Submission Date' field in the compose email notification. The default available are Unique ID, Form Title, Edit Link, and IP Address only (please check screen below).

    The submission date that the OP was wanting to add was actually in the Submissions (when you click the gear like icon), beside the Time Frame property (on the 1st screenshot by jeanette).

    In order for you to have a submission date field in the compose email, there should be a field (date field perhaps) on the form during design mode. When you compose the email notification,you will then see this date field as among the available field.

    Please inform us if this does not answers your inquiry. Thanks.

    Just to be clear ......

    What you're saying is that a notification email has no easy way to display the actual submission date without doing a hack job of adding an extra field, hiding it with CSS .....?

    Is this correct?

    Thanks, Regards Mark

    We can add a date field on the form and hide it using an injected CSS code.
    Then you can add this 'submission date' field on your Notification email.
    Is that what we wanted to achieve? I have seen it done before, so I say its very doable. =)

    Thanks.

    Jonathan,

    I can do this ... not a problem ... just to clarify ... this is the best way ... yeah?

    Wouldn't it be an idea to add a submission date field to the field chooser so that one can do it without all this palava?

    Would you pass this feature request on to the developers

    Thanks, Mark

    @crypty

    There is no an specific time frame for when this feature will be available, once the dev team is done , an update will be posted on this thread

    Respectfully Crypty,

    That means never ;-)

    Jotform is class in many ways ... but I've been knocking around so long I know what things mean ... maybe it will .... but you know .... do the hack job as suggested above. That will work ...

    @markashton, crypty, rtform.

    Wow emails with the date and time on them! You guys are genius! Who would have ever thought of that! Can the devteam reinvent the wheel too?

    If im not mistaken all email regardless of where they come from are stamped with the date and time they are sent/received.

    I can see how it would be a benefit to have the date/time IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL, rather than just relying on the date/time stamp of the email itself. When dealing with people that will swear up and down that they've filled out the form on time, there needs to be definitive proof, from and independant source (such as JotForm).

    @scot_k  ,@crypty, @markashton

    This ticket was put on hold, so I have refreshed it.

    Thank you very much for bring this into ou attention. Hopefully the feature will be implemented sooner than later as we currently have more manpower than before. At any rate, it will be up to the dev team, as they work based on priorities

    Three months you say?! Well .... let me just insert a countdown timer so we can keep track of that! Oh .... can't :)

    Still love this form site. Been working great for me so far, and the mods are responsive to my questions. And oh, did I mention that it's free?
