    Form submission returns a 404 not found page

    Asked by db9 on April 02, 2012 at 07:54 AM

    Hi, I designed a form quite quickly on your site, however styling it and getting it to work is proving a struggle. Following a forum post comment, i took the source code, and downloaded the zip file. From this i was able to edit the css so that i didn't get error messages appearing in pink frames with exclamation marks etc. So once i had the form looking as i wanted, i uploaded all files to server. However, upon submitting the form i get the following message on a blank screen-

    The requested URL /gemzform/submit.php was not found on this server.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    The wasn't a submit.php file in the download zip... If someone could help me here that would be great. Many thanks

    I've just found this previous post and followed it's instructions-

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/84981-Why-is-my-form-looking-for-your-submit-php

    So now, i have amended that line in my source code- action='' by taking out what was 'submit.php' and replaced it with a reference to jotform with my form id in there. So the form now sends, but styling that i applied is now being ignored as a result. For example, the yellow exclamation marks are re-appearing in the error messages which i had previously edited in the css file so they wouldn't show. Is there any way to remove these?

    Can you send us the page url where the form is embeded so that we can do further check on what may have caused this.

    We'll await for your response. Thanks!

    Thanks, i have the problem resolved and will post a link once i upload the files to server. My last problem is the appearance of the exclamation mark in error messages. I've looked everywhere and can't see how to remove it. How can this be achieved?

    @db9,

    You can find that image here: https://www.jotform.com/images/exclamation-octagon.png

    Save that image and add that on images folder. i.e.

    /yourformfolder/images/exclamation-octagon.png

    Hope this helps. Let us know if you have further questions. Thanks.

    My apologies, i really don't understand what you mean. I can't find that line of code referencing that image anywhere, it's like it's pulled dynamically somehow into the form only if it's requested, such as field left empty. I can't locate that line of html so i'm unable to edit it. How would adding a copy of that image into my own images folder remove it from appearing on the form?

    My colleague Idartech has suggested you too look into your form folder, a subfolder where the images are stored, it  is ussually called images

    the name of the image you want to remove is  exclamation-octagon.png

    a possible path for your folder might be :

    /yourformfolder/images/exclamation-octagon.png

    Hope this helps you

    There was never an images folder in the download zip, & the path to the image file in the source code is-

    <img align="left" style="margin-right:5px;" src=" http:// submit .jotform.com/ images/ exclamation- octagon.png">

    However, this line of html only appears in the source code if a field is left blank when hitting the send button (i used firebug to pin point it). It's like it seems to get pulled automatically from somewhere but like i've been saying, i have no idea where. If i could locate that line of html which appears nowhere in my own source files then i'd be able to change it. Please help

    @db9,

    The error image is hard coded on JS file, you need to open the jotform.js file and search for 'exclamation' word to see it. (you can find jotform.js inside js folder, when you downloaded your form's full source code).

    Apologies for my misunderstanding on the first place.

    Hope this helps.Let us know if you have further questions. Thanks.
