How to create a unique (membership) number?

Hi. I appreciate that there is a unique ID number generated with each submission. But it is too long for a membership number! Ideally when the member submits their membership form, it generates a uniqu number (say 6 digits) that could be their membership number.  Sequential is not important. Possible? I could use the last 6 digits of the ID number! But in theory it is possible it might duplicate. 

Adding a unique ID widget to your form will allow for just that:

The widget will allow you to set the starting index and will assign each submission a sequential unique ID.
