Client Needs To Edit Form In Future - Edit Link Query

Asked by markashton on April 10, 2012 at 05:17 PM

    Hi,

Ok so my client can search through a folder of emails and click an {Edit Link} and the form will pop up and they will be able to edit it.

Is there a way I can get the edit link into one of the reports like a Grid ... or html table .... they could search the grid table and click the edit link .....

Any ideas would be helpful. Many thanks for your help

    Regards Mark

I am very sorry to inform you, but our developers have declined previous request about Edit Links in Reports. It is also not possible to list the edit IDs in online Reports.

In order to Edit submission you will have to either use the Edit link from email alert or use the Edit option from Submissions page.

Please feel free to contact us if you need any further assistance.

Is that the extent of the thinking on this to date regarding how your clients' clients can edit/ manipulate their data?

    Thanks Regards Mark

There is a ticket open with the developers about a possible workaround to this issue, but unfortunately adding an 'edit link' directly to a report is being deemed as low priorty at this time.

Can we have a better explanation of why this cannot be. It doesn't make sense that on a grid-type report, one of the fields cannot be a edit link, popping up the form in a new window for revision. This would add a lot of value. Please let us know the status of this. Thanks.

    Hi @sbrand,

Good day! Maybe because of the security/privacy of the person submitting the data. If you'd like this feature, I suggest you to create a separate thread requesting the same so we can escalate that to our Developers.

    Thanks

    Welvin,

That's nonsense ... you haven't thought that through ... and I can't be assed to explain.

To be able to add editlink to a grid report is a workflow issue ...it would provide massive value to adminstrators of data.

Currently there is no way of making edits to data without having to find an individual record in the jotform interface ... and that's going no where i'm afraid.

You are the only form provider that does not provide a mechansim to edit data ...

Logiforms, Wufoo, Formstack ... all of them do

Please consider this function ... did sbrand Feature Request it?

    Thanks Mark

I am submitting your request to our dev team.

    Hi,

My clients have requested whether I could provide a means to add notes to submissions.

So ... currently they get the online grid ... which is great ... shows submissions in chronological order ... sortable, searchable, displays thumbnail images ..... love it ...

But ... any ideas how I can allow clients to add their own columns i.e. fields ... for data analysis they like to add notes ... and star ratings ....

Any ideas would be gratefully received ...

I've kept it on this thread because it is exactly the same issue really ... and that nowt has been done about it ... and that never will be done unless I bug the hell out of you ...

    Thanks Mark

    Hi mark,

Although your new suggestion is related with Grid reports, it is not the same request as the original one in this issue(Adding a submission edit link to the grid report), so kindly open a new forum thread with your last request.

    Thanks

Ok will do ... but for the record ... can you get a move on and provide some reasonable means to allow our clients to edit data as per exactly this thread ...

April 10 2012 I posted this ... and is there any way for a third party to edit a form response without providing them with lock and key to Jotform ??

No ... apart from the unwieldy email method which ... lets face it ... just floods your inbox

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks for your understanding.

You can try the following workaround for this request as I think it might help.

    1. Add a Unique ID field to your form

    2. Remove the value on Current Index and enter the edit link variable on the Prefix

    {edit_link}

I'll try to look a way on how to make this clickable on reports as it seems a tag is filtered on the report. If I or my colleague found any, we'll update you here.

    Hope this helps. Regards!

It looks genius ... but I think you're right ... the tag is filtered on reports.

Is it possible to add html into a field ... that is properly rendered on reports? Surely !

Can you give a little more info on the unique ID into edit link ... I'm alittleconfused on exactly what to do.

    Thanks Mark

    Hello,

I do see Elton has provided an specific method on how to achieve what you requested for. Once we have an update from EltonCris's method, he will let you know through this thread, thank you.

    @EltonCris

My purpose is to find a way to allow my clients to edit jotform submissions...

I have tried the proposed method ...

The Edit Link function fires up a on a url like this:
    http://submit.jotformpro.com/form.php?formID=32942263707961&sid=248415359961173801&mode=edit1

    Four things ...
    1) its got jotform written all over it
    2) the original data in the form submission is not pulled through ... i.e. it is totally empty of original submission material ... maybe I've got something wrong there though ... as I am sure you intended the original submission info to pull through into the fields.
    3) The edit link function is not clickable as we know. Currently it kicks out the url as text in the report
    4) The client wants to add notes & star ratings to submissions ... and these need to be invisible to the submitter ... but they are also invisible on the edit link function fire-up.

So, I don't think it is going to work ... but I like the thinking ;-)

    Thanks Mark

    Hello Mark,

I see that there is a feature request for this already and maybe it is best if we wait for the result from dev team.

Though we can provide workarounds using all available resources from the front-end, just like what EltonCris suggested -- there is still no guarantee that everything will be achieve thru this workaround. There is a huge limitation for us since the core code of the application were on the back-end code which we cannot use from our end.

If I may, also suggest a different approach -- use the integrated google spreasheet as the report. In the google spreadsheet submissions, you can create Pivot table report as the Report.

    Thanks.

    Jonathan,

I've tried the Google Spreadsheet integration ... have wasted multiple hours I'm afraid.

Too unreliable ... submissions often just stop.

Not fit for purpose when a client is paying you money ... that's where it really matters ...

It has promise ... but is unpredicatble ... take it from me ... I wanted it to work so much ...

One just needs to search on google spreadsheet on the forum and take 10 days to read all the problems people have with the integration ... you just end up being an unpaid tester ...

Ditch this edit link thing ... its not a solution I can offer clients ... they'd laugh in my face ;-)

    Thanks though Regards Mark

Thank you for the info Mark. I guess I have no more to say on the google spreadsheet case as it is a different topic. =)

In any case, this current thread actually have a feature request ticket (that is include Edit link in Reports) -- so, you'll never know, maybe this feature might be available sooner than expected.

And you will be notified also for any updates on this.

    @egil500

    Hi,

There are no updates available yet on this feature request from our dev team.

However, may I also suggest other options you can review about an almost similar feature. Please check on this Apps http://apps.jotform.com/category/cms

The Submission Viewe app have features similar to the feature requested on this thread.

    Hope this help.

    Thanks.

    Jonathan,

How is the Submission View app you advise of any similarity to this request? ... it has zero relevence apart from the word submission.

Why? this is about being able to edit submissions ... you propose an app that has zero ability to do so.

In a nutshell ... the submission view app is just eye-candy ... no functionality.

    Hi Mark,

I understand your point about the Submission View app lacking the Edit functionality.

I was merely suggesting an option for other means for a form user to view a form's submission data/report. The editing function should still be done within submisisons page or via {Edit Link}. If the submission was edited, and the Submissin View is refreshed, it will then reflect the changes done.

To clarify, the capability to Edit the current existing JotForm reporting tools (HTML table, Grid Report) is still the indicated feature request on this thread's ticket.

    Thanks!

    Hi jonathan,

It's just the title of the thread is ....

Client Needs To Edit Form In Future - Edit Link Query

so why would anyone be interested in ...

".... option for other means for a form user to view a form's submission data/report."

If the title of the thread was ..

'Client Needs To View Submissions In An Alternative Way'

Then yeah ... that would be relevent.

    See this thread here:

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/283181-Feature-Request-Ability-To-Provide-Access-To-Edit-Submissions-But-Without-Jotform-Brand

That is what we are all after ... but as you see in this thread too .... there appears to be a move towards apps that provide a different method to view data ...

let's be clear "viewing data" and being able to edit data are different things

    Thanks mark

OK, but  I have to agree Markashton....

...so a temporary solution could be  to have a fixed hidden email field in the form too send a autorespond to your own email with the {edit link}  and manually create a list with the {edit links}   to a webpage.... or ask a developer to  automate this task with a kind of email api for this purpose... it could be a good addon product to jotform as I think this should be basic functionality, and if jotform   do not plan to make it themselves i could pay someone out there to create a workaround for me....

    egil500 ....

    Good bit of thinking ....

Take a look at this ... does this meet your requirement ... if it had an edit button?

    https://www.jotform.com/submissions/30513103643945?fullscreen=1/
    password: test

You could pop this in an iframe ... interface perfect ... just edit functionality required?

Yes that would be great as it would close the ce... as you could send a link to a webpage with a list of {editlinks} to several  users and ask them to update relevant topics that the  {editlinks} refere to ...
