How can I make it easy for people to go back and forth between pages?

Asked by miohonda on August 25, 2016 at 10:40 AM

I have 20 pages on my form. How can I make it easy for people to go back and forth between pages?

I've already tried the "tabs", but they show up in multiple rows which does not look good at all.

There are 2 ways to navigate through the pages, it's either using the next/back buttons or using the form tabs widget.

I suggest to use the form tabs, it way more convenient since they can click on the tab they want and open that page. If you want to customize your tabs like shrinking the buttons so they align into a single row, you can do that by injecting custom CSS codes into your form.

    Thanks for your reply.

Since there are 20 pages, I'm trying to combine some questions to make it work with the tabs widget. However I cannot squeeze the number of pages enough to be user friendly.

To make my form work with the tabs, I need to do the following:

      - No tabs for the first 2 pages.

      - Combine several "pages" in one tab. So one tab consists more than one page.

Below is an image of what I am trying to say.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Thank you for providing more details and a screenshot, we appreciate it.

I did try the form tabs, testing with CSS codes but unfortunately, your requirements is a little complex and I'm afraid it is not possible. It is easy to design and remove the form tabs but having multiple pages in a single tab is the part I am having difficulties with since each form tabs is assigned with one page.

Perhaps when you try you form source code and inject custom script to it, you might be able to achieve it.

    Thank you!

Okay, I dont want to download the source code, and I'm really new to coding, so I guess I will have to figure out a way to make this work in another way...

Thanks for looking into it though!

    Hi

As an alternative, is there by any chance I can divide the form into multiple forms, and still connect all the input data?

I understand that I can connect multiple forms via the Thank You Page to make it look like a single form. But my concern is, by dividing the forms, each of the submitted data would be separated, therefore I would not be able to associate those data.

For instance if I divide the form into 5, I would have 5 submitted data by one customer. How would I be able to associate those 5 submissions? - Without asking eg. their names 5 times.

I'm happy to give you this good news. Yes, you can combine submissions of different forms with the help of our Combine Submission Application. This application allow you to merge desired fields' data from many forms into one CSV file.

You just need give permission to that application to access your forms. Open the "
http://combine.jotform.io/" link and follow the steps below

    1. Click "Start Combining"

    2. Your forms will appear on the left side of the screen and all the fields of related form are being on the right side of the screen. Once you click a form on the left side, The whole fields related to that form will appear on the right. Select the fields you want to add by clicking checkboxes. Then do the same thing for other forms you would like to combine.

    3. After finishing selection of forms and fields, down the cursor on the same page, you will see an area as following screenshot which is being just under the field parts. Arrange your setting on it and Click "Generate CVS file".

Hope, these would help you to get rid of your concern.

If you have more questions or if you are stuck somewhere while processing steps, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be pleased to assist you.

    This is great news!

However when I open the application, only 4 forms shows up. I have 8 forms.

That's because only forms that have submissions will show in that list, forms that doesn't have submissions will not.

Do I have to combine them manually every time after submission occurs?

I was hoping the system would automatically combine them every time there is a submission.

    Can this be done?

    Hi,

I hate to say this but this app does not have automatic combining feature. This is an external app which has download submissions feature itself, so you will have to visit the app and download the submissions manually. I'm afraid there's no other way around other than doing it manually. You may consider combining the submissions batches, like every 50 submissions you received and combine them other than combining them on every

You may consider combining the submissions by batches, like on every 50 submissions you received, you can use the app and combine them other than combining them on every submissions you received which are a bit labor-intensive.

    Thank you!

Even if I did it manually, this does not give me the result I am looking for.

I divided my form into 4 forms (you can see the reason why I did this in my past posts). Since it is supposed to be one single form, I need the submitted data by each user to be connected. I need to know which data of "form 1" "form 2" "form 3" and "form 4" was submitted by "USER A". But from what I see in the downloaded CVS, this is not happening.

    Thank you for your feedbacks.

I understood what you intended to do but I'm afraid  there is no direct way to achieve this.
On the other hand; I can also suggest you some other ways to minimise your work load.

    1. Google spreadsheet integration and use following add-on to merge them.

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/merge-sheets/gdmgbiccnalapanbededmeiadjfbfhkl

2.You can create HTML table listing or grid listing report to merge submission records manually. You just need to open reports and copy the records.

    http://www.jotform.com/help/105-How-to-create-a-Grid-Listing-report

    3. You can also download your submission as Excel/CSV/PDF and merge after that. Please also make sure that you enable to show submission ID on the preferences to show it on submission record.

Whichever way I choose, does this mean I have to ask the user to input their names (or anything that identifies them) in every single form in order to connect the right forms?

As my colleague suggested make sure you have submission ID included, and yes, by my opinion, it is good to have your customers input their names so you can easily track all submissions in Excel/CSV file or Dropbox.

If you have further questions please let us know.

    Thank you!

    That would be a problem.

To the user, it looks like a single form (the forms are connected through the Thank you page) so it will not make sense to ask them to input their names several times.

Is there no single solution for this?

Also, what is submission ID? I cannot see any ID's anywhere.

You can get the submissions ID in your form submissions page. Or you can have it on email too by adding this tag {id} in your email notification.

Like I've previously suggested, you should try using your form source code as it is far the best option you can have so you can further customize the style or the design of your form. You can also inject custom scripts to achieve what you want. This tutorial might be of help http://www.jqueryscript.net/layout/Lightweight-jQuery-Tabbed-Content-Pagination-Plugin-TabPager.html. It's a tab with multiple paging.

    Thanks!

I need to embed the forms into my website created with Webflow.  Since Webflow is an online web creator and cannot edit the scripts directly, I am guessing this means there is no solution for this..?

I am really not familiar with coding etc so I may be misunderstanding the situation and your advise. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Thank you.
