There seems to be a bug in the system that if a fields initial status is set to hidden, there is no way to reset it back to shown.

I've cloned your form and I've found out that there is a condition that intentionally hide that field. Here's the screenshot:
You need to remove that condition to fully control that field. After doing that, you can just remove the Date Picker widget and add it back.

I wish it was that easy! I put that condition in place as the form needed to be made live but have some way of stopping users entering information whilst I worked on it.
If you have another look now you will see that the field status cannot be changed

You are correct, there is no option to change the status:
I tried updating the widget, but it does not work.
I have forwarded this to our widgets team. You will be informed via this thread when this gets fixed.
