How do I create a returning student option?

I'm looking to create a sign-in sheet for class attendance and such.  I would like to be able to provide a return client button to shortcut the sign-in process for returning clients so they don't have to fill in all the blanks time and time again.  Maybe use a username as reference, but do you have a way to save the username for future use?

The only solution I could think of is pre-filling the form using URL parameters. However, this can only be done by manually setting it up and then storing the link somewhere for future reference.
