I have spent hours editing the PDF format (that is downloadable after a form is submitted.) In fact, I have spent hours on it at a time for weeks trying to figure it out. All I want is to have a neat looking PDF copy of every submission.
I finally broke down and just made text boxes for the whole thing and arranged the submission answers accordingly. Then after countless hours of arranging, when I go back into the editor.... THE BOXES HAVE ALL CHANGED! They are located in the correct places, but the text within the boxes have jumped to other boxes. Each box contains exactly what another box is supposed to have. There are no duplicates. Somehow the order gets jumbled and I'm having a nervous breakdown.
Perhaps there is a much easier way to go about what I am doing. So, please contact me if you can help.

I have checked the forms you currently have in your account and I can see the PDF report has been customized and it looks like this:
What I would suggest you is to reset the PDF report layout so you can get the default layout and customize your form as you need, to reset the layout go to the PDF customization page and click on the reset button:
Once you have done this you will notice that your form has been set back to the default layout, here you could start customizing the PDF layout again and you may also provide us the desired layout you would like to have in your form so we can work with that on our end and help you to get that customized report.
- frosty2188Answered on October 28, 2016 at 10:44 PMI was actually struggling with the other form on my account. But, resetting the form doesn't fix my problem. I inserted text boxes that rearrange themselves. I'm trying to make an easy fill contract that will be formatted professionally. I can email a blank contract for you to view if that would help. Although, I have it pretty close to perfect. (If the text quits rearranging itself)

Just to clarify, is it the form fields you're having issues or with the PDF designer?
I checked your forms and the fields seems to be showing just fine. However, some of the textboxes are not properly aligned on the paragraph lines.
If you want fields along with long paragraphs, I suggest you use this widget http://widgets.jotform.com/widget/narrative_fields.
This would make your contract form a lot neater and easy to fill.

enter the same information. The narrative field doesn't work for me because
I want the text boxes to auto-populate once the first part of the form is
filled in. If there is a way to auto-fill the text fields within the
narrative, that would be the best thing for me.
Since I haven't found this capability, I am trying to do the best with what
is available. The PDF Designer lets me organize the text fields fairly
well, but when I email or download the PDF the format changes. Then when I
go back into the editor to try and fix, the text boxes I inserted are in
the right place but the text within them switched around. example: text box
1 that should have A within it is showing B that is supposed to be in text
box 2. I would like to format it neatly, but I need something that at least
shows the text for now.

Yes, you're right, widgets cannot be pre-populated so far since they work in a different way compared to the basic fields.
I see you say that you've customized the PDF layout of your form's PDF report and you're reporting that once you've finished customizing the report close the PDF customization page and when you go back to the customization page the layout is different and it does not look the same as you customized it.

I have reloaded the PDF customization page and the same layout was there, maybe this happens because of the amount of content the fields have when they are submitted and the width or height that you set up in your PDF report is not enough.
Could you please provide us how you customize your report?
And also, could we get some screenshots about how the report is downloaded once you're received the submission?

I have attached a full screenshot for you. I didn't write any notes on it because I think it's self explanatory. The text boxes are in the correct place (where I put them) but they aren't showing the correct contents. So it looks like I made a giant box for a tiny amount of text and then a tiny box for a large amount of text.

I will forward this to our developers so they can further investigate and hopefully fix the problem.
It's just weird that your PDF is well designed in the editor but not when the actual PDF is downloaded.
But the view in the actual PDF zooms out and some of the field value are shifting its position
We'll let you know once this is resolved.

I also made small changes in your PDF layout. It is now displaying normally as desired.
If you're going to add more text, I'm afraid the layout would break again. I found out that the long text isn't wrapping properly in the actual PDF which is the cause why the content zooms out and the field values are shifting its position. To fix it, simply place a line break (enter key) at the end of every text lines.
If you need further help, just let us know.
Our developers will look into this as well.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had taken a look at this for me. I still don't have an operational form until I can download a PDF copy after submission. I'm not sure I understand the line break comment, but the text is still out of order. When I originally formatted the PDF, the text boxes contained different values than they do now. While the current values are from other parts of my PDF, they aren't in the correct order.
Long story short, I want to create an auto-fill narrative text box. Since this isn't currently possible with that widget, I made do with a bunch of text boxes with auto-fill boxes in between. It took a long time, but looked pretty good considering. When I tried to download a copy, the text was jumbled. Then I went back into the editor and it was jumbled in the editor. (boxes and submissions in the right place though)

Unfortunately, there is still no update on this. Our developers have their own list of priorities for all the features and bugs report. Rest assured they will provide you updates here once this is fixed.
You might want to reconsider the narrative fields widget for now. This actually works but it only supports text boxes. However, text narration can be included on submissions as well as on the PDF file when you enable it on its settings.
