Payment Field doesn't reflect the proper total UNLESS the bottom-most option was selected

Asked by dmichaels on November 21, 2016 at 02:51 PM

I understand how I can set up a recurring credit card payment (as a subscription) using PayPal Payments Pro. I can feed the amount to the payment field using a calculation field.

I can easily spread it out into 12 equal payments (or whatever number I decide on, but what I can't figure out is how to let my Donor select how many months to spread their payments over.

    Is there something I've missed?

    Thanks,

    David

I checked your form and it seems you've figured out how to let your customer choose the number of recurring charges they want.

It can be configured in the subscription options under payment wizard.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, I can allow the customer to select the number of payments, but I want to be able to ask them the amount of their donation and how many months they want to spread it over. Then I’ll calculate the monthly amount.
Otherwise we’re basically asking how much they want to donate per month and how many months they want to continue with that amount.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,

Please test this form https://form.jotform.com/61496633221959 .

You can manually change the donation amount on the test form. And there is a recurring option as well.

The test form was created by following this user guide:

Let us know if this solution is still not what you need.

    Thanks.

    So close!

After seeing your example, it opened my eyes to a workable approach. I updated the form and it almost works.

    1 issue and 1 question:

Issue - I show the total payment on the form but the total is only populated if you choose the last option. If you change the order of the options, whichever one you make last will work to populate the total field.

Question – Did I select the correct number of payments? If I select “3 payments” will it be a total of 3 payments or one payment today and then 3 more?

    Thanks,

You guys do a great job and support is A1.

The total seems to be populating currently upon a Select Circle field selection. If the issue still persists, please let us know.

Yes, when you set the number of payments to 3 it should lead to 3 payments in total.

    Thank you.

I tried previewing this form using IE and Firefox and in neither one does the Total field populate, unless the bottom-most option is selected.

    What could be wrong?

    Thanks.

I'm currently investigating why it only applies when the last option is clicked. This is not browser-specific per se, it has something to do with the Payment Wizard so I'd have to do some tests. I'll keep you posted on this same thread once I got something, thanks.

I was able to reproduce this on a simpler form emulating the same dropdown (Select Circle) and subscription denomination (12, 10, 6, 3, 1).

    https://www.jotform.com/63266469917975

The Payment Field doesn't reflect the proper total UNLESS the bottom-most option was selected.

I've escalated this to our Devs and although I won't be able to give you any timeframe, rest assured, we'll keep you apprised on this same thread if/when there's an update.

I should point out that the problem seems to be limited to the display of the total.

If you set payment type to PayPal and submit the form, you'll see at the PayPal site that the correct dollar amount is passed to PayPal (and I assume credit card would work just as well).

I hope this helps in troubleshooting the issue. Clearly we can't present this to end users as is, but I'm sure you'll find the solution in short order.

    Thanks,

    David
