I cancelled this account at the end of August. I just looked at my banking and I'm still being charged monthly.

Our apologies. There is indeed a request for cancellation, but we've failed to process it for you. The cancellation is manual for Paypal-based subscriptions. I have requested the refund for the payments to our billing team. You should receive a notification once the refunds are made, but please note that we can only refund up to 60 days in Paypal.

If you can only refund up to 60 days in Paypal, can you instead send us a cheque for the full amount?

We cannot issue a cheque, unfortunately. You actually have the option to cancel the subscription on your Paypal account instead of requesting us the cancellation. I'm sorry, but this is the only refund that we can issue.
