August 10-12, 2018 and August 9-11, 2019 (dates subject to change, USTA Southern to notify of any changes)
  • Introduction

The USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Championships includes champion teams from each of the nine southern states. With more than 26,000 participants in 2016, Junior Team Tennis continues to be the flagship junior program for youth tennis. The economic impact on the community hosting this event will be significant, as 55+ teams comprised of 500 players with their parents and siblings, and at least 385 hotel room nights will be booked. Communities are encouraged to submit bids based on their ability to offer hard, soft and/or a mix of hard and soft courts in their bid. The tournament will be awarded to a community on a two year bid contract.

This event requires a minimum of 50 hard and/or soft courts (preferably in groups of 4) utilizing no more than three or four sites. The community must be able to accommodate adequate room nights at quality hotels close to the tennis facilities with reasonable room rates.

Listed below are the specific details and requirements for hosting the USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Championships. The responsibilities required of the host organization and the responsibilities fulfilled by the USTA Southern Section are listed below. Attached is the bid form that must be completed by the host organization and submitted to the USTA Southern Section office. Cities are encouraged to submit additional information concerning their community and tennis environment that may provide a more complete picture for bid selection parties to consider. Ideally, this bid will be completed through a joint effort between local entities, including, but not limited to, a Community Tennis Association and both public and/or private tennis facilities.

Submission: Please submit the bid form online via this jotform by 5:00 PM on Friday, July 28, 2017. You may contact Jessica Harrell at harrell@sta.usta.com with any questions about the bid.

Decision: The USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Committee will review all bids and decide on a location no later than August 9, 2017. The Committee will give preference to those areas/facilities that already offer a USTA Junior Team Tennis league, followed by areas/facilities that are making a constructive effort to start a league.

  • Host Responsibilities

USTA Southern and the USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Committee understand that it is practically impossible for any site to comply in full with all the requirements. Although there are certain requirements that cannot be overlooked, USTA Southern is willing to work with a Host Committee to make certain adjustments if a Site/facility cannot meet certain requirements. Ultimately, we want to ensure that the tournament will be a positive experience for players, volunteers, staff, and all parties involved.

    Site Requirements:

    • The Host will provide a minimum of 50 courts (utilizing no more than 3 or 4 sites). All courts should be available for tournament play beginning Friday at 2:00 PM through all day Sunday. All site/court fees are the responsibility of the Host.

These letters of intent must be converted into contracts with the hotels 5 months prior to the tournament. The Championship Site Selection Committee will not consider a bid without accompanying letters of intent. The host must follow up with each hotel monthly beginning three months prior to the Section Championship to get documentation showing how many of the rooms in the block have been reserved by tennis players and provide this information to the USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Coordinator.
