  • There are eight awards recognizing outstanding achievement in philanthropy presented at the annual Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day Luncheon. Each award recognizes extraordinary contributions to the local community in each category . A panel of fundraising professionals and community leaders selected by AFPSVC will review the nominations and select one nominee (a couple or group may be considered as one nominee) in each category. Collaborative nominations are encouraged. If no nominee meets the criteria in a particular category, the selection panel may choose not to present an award for that category.   • Process

    Step 1 - Intent to Nominate: Go to the Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day section on the AFP SVC website (, select the “Nominations” button, complete and submit the online form.

    Step 2 – Select Outstanding Award Nomination: Complete the Outstanding Award Nomination Form, Essay and Supplementary Information and submit to by 5pm on Thursday, April 6, 2017. On line??

    Step 3 - Award Notification: Nominators will be notified of honoree selections by May 26, 2017. If your nominee is selected, portions of your written application may be read to the audience at the Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day awards luncheon, published in the event program and in other community publications.

    Step 4 - Award Presentation: Honorees must attend and will be publicly recognized at AFP SVC’s Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day on November 16, 2018, at the Santa Clara Marriott. Honorees will receive their award onstage and make brief remarks.

  • Criteria

    This award recognizes a family or individual with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles on a community, regional or national level.

    1. Evidence of significant major gift support including a description of the impact of gift support. (0-50 points)
    2. Evidence of encouragement and motivation to others to take leadership roles in giving and igniting philanthropy. (0-25 points)
    3. Description of participation and gift support of other nonprofits that improves the quality of community life — locally, regionally, or nationally. (0-15 points)
    4. Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative or collaborative approaches to solving problems. (0-10 points)
  • Submission Requirements

    Each nominee/applicant will be responsible for gathering and submitting all required materials by the assigned due date. Failure to submit all materials by the deadline will disqualify the nominee/applicant for the current award cycle.

  • PLEASE NOTE: Honorees must agree to be at the Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day luncheon Friday, November 16, 2018, to accept their award.

    ALSO, there are no complimentary tickets given to anyone including honorees. Nominators should be prepared to discuss ticket/table purchases with their honoree. Alternately, they can host their honoree(s).
