  • OPTIONAL: If you would like to be considered for a designated fellowship, please indicate your interest below. Please note, you may elect to be considered for more than one designated fellowship. Learn more about these fellowships here. If no specific fellowship is selected, you will be considered for a Miller Center National Fellowship.

  • Please submit the following documents either in Word or PDF format. Max file size: 5MB. If your file is larger than 5MB try removing some images or shortening it.

  • Project Description

    In 1,200 words or less, describe your dissertation or book. State the thesis, explain how it contributes to or revises existing scholarship, and how or why you decided on this particular topic.

  • Op-Ed Proposal

    In 750 words or less, write an op-ed (like those featured in the New York Times) or a blog post (like those appearing on Slate.com) which applies a major finding from your research to a current public policy problem. 

  • Bibliography

    Submit a bibliography from your project of no more than three pages.

  • Curriculum Vitae

    Submit a C.V. of no more than two pages.

  • Writing Sample

    Writing sample should consist of one chapter from your dissertation (approximately forty pages) and a one-page introduction that situates the chapter in the broader project OR an accepted/published journal article.

  • TWO letters of Recommendation

  • Please submit the name, university affiliation, and e-mail address for each faculty member who you will contact to send a letter on your behalf.

  • IMPORTANT: Please instruct your references to send your letter of recommendation as a WORD or PDF attached directly to the Miller Center Fellowship Review Board at mc-fellowship@virginia.edu. Please note all letters of recommendation must be received by Feb. 1, 2016.
