The Basics
Welcome to the beginning of your voice journey with Dorothy. The voice is the most powerful avenue for expression, it is the unique audible blueprint for who you are! As we get to know your voice we will hold space for everything that we discover. Our strengths inform us to how we can mould our instrument to its finest quality. I am here to help you on your journey. I couldn't be more excited about what we will learn along the way. The following is a questionnaire to introduce you to your voice. There is no right and wrong answers, everything that you note down will help us to create a picture of your current vocal profile. Your profile will change as you discover new ways to use your voice. This form will take approximately five minutes to complete. Lets begin!

Breathing Exercise
An important part of singing is breath support. It is helpful to know what your existing support is like to decide on how much time will be spent on certain exercises. Allowing yourself to naturally inhale I would like you to exhale for as long as possible. Please use a timer or clock to count the exhale in seconds.

Choosing your song
This is so exciting. This is where your voice really takes flight! I would like you to think of three songs that bring you joy. They might be songs that you sing to in the shower or as you drive home from a days work. You might like to pick a song by a favourite artist so you can close your eyes and imagine it’s you on the stage. You can pick a song that feels like home or offers you a challenge; whatever gives you the desire to open your heart and sing out!

Vocal Care and Preparation
Please stay hydrated, those vocal chords love their water. It is helpful to bring in a recording device (phone is fine). You are welcome to know your songs as little or as much as you like before our session. Most importantly, bring with you an open mind and willingness to learn. I am here to support you and help you make the most of your lesson! I feel honoured that you have taken up this offer and am really looking forward to working together. Dorothy.
