Explain proper ladder safety
Always maintain a 3-point (two hands and a foot, or two feet and a hand) contact on the ladder when climbing. Keep your body near the middle of the step and always face the ladder while climbing. Only use ladders and appropriate accessories (ladder levelers, jacks or hooks) for their designed purposes.
Explain how to avoid slips and trips.
Make housekeeping a routine by: Picking up after yourself, Keeping surfaces and stairways clear of debris, Putting away tools and equipment after use. Keep surfaces clean and dry. Wear boots or shoes with good traction.
Explain how to lift heavy objects properly
Do not attempt to lift by bending forward. Bend your hips and knees to squat down to your load, keep it close to your body, and straighten your legs to lift. Never lift a heavy object above shoulder level.Avoid turning or twisting your body while lifting or holding a heavy object.
Explain how to avoid getting caught between objects and/or equipment
Hazard recognition-Familiarize yourself with the hazards and you’ll encounter on the site. Equipment safety-Never use a piece of equipment unless all of the guards are in position and properly adjusted. Maintain Distance-If you’re not the one operating apiece of equipment, stay away from it. Respect Barricades and Monitor material movement.
Explain how to avoid getting struck by objects or materials
Wear hard hats to avoid falling objects. Stack materials properly to prevent sliding, falling, or collapse. Always wear proper PPE (hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, and/or face shields). Secure tools and materials so they will not fall on people below. Do not work under cranes, hoists, or heavy machinery while in operation.
