Purpose: Reading & Writing Seminar will focus on helping students to strengthen their critical reading and writing skills and increase their confidence with challenging texts and assignments. The course will focus on strengthening students’ ability to read and think critically. Through various Gothic texts, students will become close-readers, critical readers, and strong writers.
Online Classroom Rules:
1. Be Respectful and Professional. Please use respectful language during class discussions and virtual classrooms.
2. Be Detail Oriented. All the information you need is posted in the Stream, Classwork, and Materials. Please READ through before reaching out to teachers with queries.
3. Participate. We have regular Google Question discussions that count as a Classwork grade! Please make sure to take part in these discussions. We also will hold virtual classes- this is a great time to ask questions about the reading, the assignments, or anything else going on in the class.
4. Be timely. I am taking late work without penalty within a two week window so I can grade it; if it is later than that, I cannot guarantee it will be counted for the marking period.
5. Be Original. You will not learn if you do not do your own work. “Copying” includes: copying any part of an assignment from another student, cheating on tests/quizzes, “pasting” information from the internet, copying information from sources without using quotes and citations, or having another person write one’s work. After one offense, I will reach out to you. If it happens again, you will not receive credit. Work that is copied CANNOT be made up.
6. Bring Effort and Positivity ! Focus and work your hardest, ask for help when you need it, and think of all you will gain in the process.
I’m looking forward to a great rest of the year!
Grading Policy: The following components will determine the student’s grade:
