Advanced Placement Course Enrollment Contract

It is the belief of Kingsburg High School that all students who are willing to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum should be considered for enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Each student who plans to register for an AP course should understand the requirements outlined below. Students with questions or concerns about the requirements should contact the counseling office for clarification. Both parent and student should review and sign this AP Course Enrollment Contract.

Each student must understand and agree to the following AP course registration guidelines and requirements:

1. Students will be required to complete AP Summer Homework for each AP course in which they are enrolled.  These assignments will be given to students during an orientation meeting.  Notification of this meeting will be given to students and students who miss the meeting will be responsible for getting the AP Summer Homework Assignment from the instructor prior to summer vacation.  
2. The AP Summer Homework is due on ______________.  Any student who fails to turn in the assignment by the end of the first week of school will be dropped from the course.  
3. Students who enroll in the course after August 1 will receive the AP Summer Homework upon registration and will be given additional two weeks from the first day of school to complete and submit the work.  
4. Additional mandatory meetings outside of class time will be held over the course of the year to cover curriculum and prepare for the AP Examination in May.  Students will not be released from class in May until all required work (assignments/portfolios/projects) and make-up hours are completed.  If none of this work is completed, the student is to continue attending class with the instructor, until the last day of school/scheduled final.
5. AP Students who commit to take the AP Examination in May will receive both an inflated grade for the course, and release from the class after the exam and all coursework is submitted.  In no case will a grade of “D” or below be inflated.   Please note:  4-year colleges and universities will not accept a D in any subject area.    
6. The College Board provides guidelines on curricular and resource requirements for AP courses.  Each college or university determines criteria for awarding college credit for an AP course. 
7. There is a mandatory fee of $40 to be paid to the school registrar by November 1st to pay for the College Board Advanced Placement Test reservation.  If you qualify for a fee waiver, please contact the school registrar before the deadline.
